Meeting At The Cubicle

Big Bill Breeze was in his comfortable chair with the desk protecting him and a tightly fastened headset on, “Yes, the small town of Ziro will love Abbie’s Celtic Lass, she was born to play in Ziro.”

After the phone conversation the apparatus came off when a bubbly enthusiastic blonde who stood right outside his workplace needed attention. “When I introduced myself to the receptionist, she asked me what insurance plan I wanted and handed me these sheets of paper,” the blonde commented, “I took them thinking they were sheet music.”

Smiling Big Bill offered, “Here I will take those from you,” then threw them in the garbage pail, “anyway how can I help you?”

“I am the lead singer in the band Granderelle, and you are my manager,” the singer explained, “I have the number one hit in the country you know, ‘caught up in you’”

With that reminder Big Bill Breeze went into a brain freeze, “yes of course, let me guess your name is Debbie, Tiffany, wait a second Deborah.” She started to give a stern look to tell him, “its Gibby, my Great Great Grandfather invented the Gibson guitar, you remember?”

Still trying to collect his thoughts the stare continued and the talent started to turn red, “You were at my recording of my album Perseverance. Then like a bunch of rolling thunder motorcycle riders the memory started to come back, “Yes of course Gibby, how are you doing?”

“I just wanted to make sure my checks have been clearing for you know the publicity end of this thing,”

Then it dawned on Big Bill Breeze that the deposit in the account was not from the trifecta he had at the racetrack. Trying to think of something fast he noticed an announcement hanging on the wall, “Party at Salt Lake”. “Well I have been working on getting your band,” Big Bill ensured the young girl.

“Granderelle,” Gibby finished the sentence.

“Yes Granderelle,” Big Bill Breeze paused while he pulled up the ‘register your client page’ on the Utah event website, “into the big event ‘Party at Salt Lake’”

Feeling very excited Gibby wanted to clarify, “that is the gig with the Flamingo Chick as a headliner.”

“Yes, that is correct,” Big Bill Breeze confirmed hitting the submit button on the screen which then in turn flashed back, “You’re in.”

“Now Big Breeze,”

“Big Bill Breeze,” he corrected.

“Yes, of course, Big Bill Breeze this is not one of those karaoke meetups,” Gibby wanted to make sure.

“No of course, not,” Big Bill Breeze started to stand up in order to escort Gibby to the lobby and when they passed the receptionist wearing a headset the office gate keeper asked, “Is Gibby Obama or Trump care?” Ignoring the question Big Bill Breeze took Gibby’s hands. “Your band will be staying at Barb’s Gray Lion right on the main drag.”

“You could not get us rooms at the ‘Red Lion’?”

“No, it was booked, a convention in town,” Big Bill Breeze stated as the elevator opened and Gibby stepped in,” Oh one more thing, the Flamingo Chick is always kissable.”

As the doors started to shut Big Bill Breeze caught his mistake, “I mean very approachable.” Heading back to where he was not vulnerable Big Bill Breeze passed by the receptionist desk and was able to hear her say, ‘Press one for Blue Cross, press two for Blue Shield, press three for Prudential and since the duck and geico share the cubicle press four or five for them.”

Back in his comfort zone Big Bill Breeze put up his feet and chuckled, “she is something and that is why we called her forty-five LP ‘Perseverance’”.
