Kiefer's Hero

Kiefer’s Hero

By: SHYANE A. ROA

Kiefer is the only son who is a cute and kind kid. He loves to play with his favorite pet named Nebres. "Wow! What a cute dog!" Kiefer said when he first saw Nebres. He was so happy that he found Nebres roaming around for food in the street.
"Nebres, starting today you will stay in our house," Kiefer said. Nebres sweetly barked to Kiefer as a sign of happiness.

One morning, Kiefer decided to bring Nebres into their house. Every day, he would feed his dog and almost devote all his time to Nebres.
When it was time for Kiefer to enroll in his class as a Kindergarten pupil, he felt sad because he would have to leave Nebres every day. But as weeks passed, Kiefer coped up as he found a new friend in school named Kian. Kiefer became busy with his friend and almost forgot about the presence of Nebres when he arrived home from school. Sometimes, he felt irritated when Nebres would follow him.

Kiefer’s behavior changed as he always shouted at Nebres, saying, “Stay away from me!” and that day, Nebres cried. He never minded the tantrums of Nebres and he continued to dislike him until he found out that Nebres had left the house. Kiefer admitted that he was worried about the absence of Nebres. He went to the place where he first found Nebres but he couldn’t find him. Kiefer did not stop searching for Nebres. “I promised to find you,” he silently prayed.

It was a rainy afternoon when Kiefer’s father did not arrive to pick him up after class. He almost cried because he was the only one left in their classroom. Kiefer decided to walk home alone. As he was in the middle of the roadway surrounded by rubber trees, Kiefer was horrified as he saw a huge snake crawling near him. Kiefer shouted for help so loudly. He felt nervous that he couldn't stop sweating, tears were falling, and he even urinated in his pants. He closed his eyes and embraced the reality that no one could save him from danger.

But he was shocked when he saw his long-lost pet Nebres biting the snake until it died. He ran fast towards Nebres and hugged him so tight.
I’m sorry for neglecting your presence and thank you for saving my life. I promise to bring back the days when I always loved and cared for you, even if I have a new friend.” Nebres barked as a sign of peace and understanding.

The parents of Kiefer arrived in the area and they brought Nebres to the hospital. They found out that the snake was free from poison.
