Flori And The Little Dragon A Prehistoric Fairy Tale

Once in the days, of the years, of the last great dinosaurs and dragons, before the gnomes and faeries, graced the lands with bountiful crops, lived a creature known as the Florotops.

A great scaly beast was the Florotops; as big as an elephant with many green horns atop his head and neck, that sprouted lovely, scented flowers. His appearance was that of a rhinoceros with an elephant’s tail and hooves like a horse.

One day, a Florotops came across a young dragon who had gotten lost, the dragon was quite sad, his eyes full of big dragon tears.

Florotops said, “Little dragon, my name is Flori, what’s ours and why are you crying?”

“sniff...sniff...I am Drayke and I don’t know where Momma has gone...sniff. We were walking and a great Wyvern attacked Momma; she flew off to fight him and has not returned.

Flori felt very sad as he watched Drake, crying and he was certain that he had to help the little one. He also knew that Wyverns hated dragons and every other living thing; that if the Wyvern had a chance, it would have killed Drayke. He knew he had to help.

“Perhaps I can help you to find her”, said Flori, knowing that Momma dragon, may have been killed. “I have met some dragons in my day; perhaps one knows your family? Come, ride upon my back and I will take you to them.”

Drayke climbed up onto Flori’s wide back, carefully balancing with his wings, he rode the great, lumbering beast for what seemed like miles. The luscious scent coming from Flori’s flowers, lulled him to sleep and his head fell between the green horns, helping to brace him, in place.

They were halfway to a dragon lair, familiar to Flori, when out of nowhere, flew a Wyvern! It dove, catching Flori off guard and snatched the sleeping babe from Flori’s great back. With shrieks the vicious Wyvern rose into the sky; Drayke, now awake, screeching for help and followed by the thundering of Flori’s hooves. They shook the ground enough to awaken other sleeping dragons and soon the air was alive with beating dragon wings; they had heard Drayke’s cry.

An elder dragon landed with a great Thump! Flori stopped dead in his tracks, the elder dragon, Drakkor, had been helped in the past by Flori and was extremely grateful. Quickly Flori told about little lost Drayke and how he had tried to help and the Wyvern had flown down and nabbed the sleeping babe.

Drakkor was infuriated, “Follow me!” He shouted, as his great wings whipped the winds and soon he and Flori had joined the other dragons who were awaiting orders from Drakkor, on a nearby hilltop.

Now you may think that Dragons and Wyverns are of the same family but, Wyverns have always hated dragons. Wyverns only have two legs and are smaller than dragons. Dragons with four legs, in a huge thunder of dragons, can kill a Wyvern. It is not always easy because Wyverns, being a bit smaller and meaner, often slip quickly away and are quite quick to injure a dragon.

Once the Dragon Thunder received it’s orders and Flori explained his side of the story, the search was on again as dragon wings, darkened the sky.

It wasn’t long before they spotted the vicious Wyvern, little Drayke in its claws, crying and screeching for his life. The sky brightened a bit as the dragons split into several thunders, surrounding the Wyvern and the young one.

Wyvern, knowing he would need all of his strength to defend himself, dropped Drayke; straight to the ground he was falling with one sprained wing, when Flori spotted him. Flori swiftly ran towards the falling wyvern. He arrived beneath the babe just in time, to spread his great flowers, fluffing the leaves of them quickly enough for Drayke to land softly atop. He dashed for the nearest cover as the dragons attacked their enemy from all sides.

Flori and Drayke watched from the ground as the crimson rain pounded the treetops. Then, out of the sky came a Vibria dragon, the Drayke cried out, “Mommma!” It was all over in minutes and the Vibria returned to the ground, to collect her little Drayke.

A great celebration was held outside of the big dragon lair; Flori of course, was a great hero, having known exactly where to go and what to do, in order to help save Drayke. The dragons were more than happy to serve their best meal for the event and they all dined on a feast of, forest greens and dragon-roasted, Wyvern rump.

As for Flori, he became a regular guest at the dragon lair, often feasting along with the dragons and sometimes bringing along a bit of fresh forest greens and berries for dessert. Whenever Flori was in trouble, the dragons came to his rescue. Little Drayke had plenty of Flori rides, until he grew into a big dragon.
