Elan World - The Awakening

by

I wake up wet with morning dew it's clear some time has passed,

the last thing I remember I was ill and fading fast.

To my surprise I find that I have wings upon my back.

"What is this place?" I ponder as I freeze there in my tracks.

I gaze about and marvel at the beauty all around

and if I listen closely I hear nature's rhythmic sounds.

I look above and scan the clearest sky I've ever seen.

This strange, new world I woke up in must surely be a dream.

I find a narrow path that runs along a winding stream,

I'm curious where it leads to, what wondrous things I'll see.

The trail leads through a hollow then into a forest grove,

the bounty of the vegetation is a treasure trove.

The path ends at a clearing as I ponder on my fate-

I wonder, is it possible I stand at heaven's gate?

Some forest creatures come to me and bow before my feet,

I feel their love, so soft and warm it makes my heart replete.

A soft wind blows, I feel myself arise from off the ground,

my wings begin to flutter though they never make a sound.

Before too long I'm soaring high above the woods below.

The zephyr seems to know just where it is that I must go-

A palace in the distance gleaming brightly as the sun,

the breeze begins to settle, I sense my flight is done.

The palace entrance opens as I walk toward it's light,

I feel a tranquil peacefulness and sense I'll be alright.

No one's here I glance around - there's artwork everywhere!

Could this be my palace home? I say a silent prayer.

It isn't long before a kind old man approaches, then he says,

"Welcome home young princess child, your father's ill in bed."

I follow him down marble halls confused but unafraid.

This man is my own father? I'm sure that's what he said.

We enter through an open door, I breathe and count to three,

then kneel beside his stately bed and listen to this plea,

"Little one you've traveled far to sit upon my throne,

I'm dying soon and moving on to realms that are unknown.

This world is yours forevermore and every living thing

will bow to you my princess child with blessings from their king."

His eyes shut tight, before too long he breathes his very last.

A brand new life awaits me, I must forget about my past.

I look about into this world from my new palace home-

a rainbow arcs from east to west and I know...

I'll never be alone.

This is really beautiful. Actually, transported me. Beautiful, I remember reading Elan World before, I don't remember this one. I need to get a box of tissues, and I hardly ever cry. That is the sign of a brilliant story for me. If it makes me feel that strongly, it's a winner. x
