Dropping In Out Of The Blue

Another autumn classic day was ending as Susie took some time to smell the flowers after putting the roses to bed. Soon she would be closing the novelty shop and walk through the harbor city shopping district dreaming that a man wearing a carnation would come from the big city and take her to a heavenly place.

Then out of the blue silence was broken when the jingle on the door signaled a patron wanting to come into the business establishment.

“We are closed,” Susie did say noticing the dark figure not making a move.

Shoving off the frustration she turned the outside lights on to see the past returned.

“Excuse me but we are,” and Susie stopped right there in her tracks.

“Susie,” was the words that came out of the pinstripe gentlemen’s mouth.

“You think you can just drop in like this!” Susie raised the pitch in her voice, “remember when you abandoned me, you know you are the only black eye in my,”

“Love life,” the figure finished the thought.

With the sun out of the picture a cool mist started to form on the cobblestone street.

“I truly was an authentic Swiss sky diver, that part was true,”

Susie stood there not budging and had no intention in lowering her emotional guard no matter how hard he tried to win her over again.

“Yes, I studied dropping in out of the blue in Switzerland and was pretty good at that.” He continued the explanation.

“What do you want now?”

“Holiday greetings,” the man answered.

“Like what?”

“Oh, Christmas Tree to start,”

Knowing it would be good business to let him she opened the door wider.

“I have just been starting to display seasonal items, you can have a sneak peek.”

After selecting a tree from the Festive Forest, he spent the next hour walking up and down the aisle studying the stocking stuffers acting like an out of the money art collector.

“This one would be good for Mary and this one would be good for the other Mary,” Susie could hear and stood there waiting for him to complete his order.

When done he carried the gifts to the register where Susie met him halfway. ‘

“So,” she paused, “whose Mary?”

Laughing “they both play on Jesus’ team and boy do they put on a good show.”

“Really,”

“One is for my Mother and the other”

Not wanting to hear the rest Susie wrapped her arms around him and gave an honest kiss before professing “I believe in you, I believe you were an authentic Swiss sky diver and that Jesus’ team put on a good show.”

Wiping his lips, the man returned to his thought, “and the other one is for my sister, now how do I know you?”

Quick thinking Susie pulled down a mistle toe hanging above the checkout area, “this was not a good product placement.”
