Did You Win Dixon?

Did You Win Dixon?

Coming out of the grocery store Dixon felt blue when he met up with a short little man who wanted to inquire about his luck.

“Did you win?” Rufo asked.

“Nah,” Dixon quickly replied, “who are you?”

“Rufo, is my name,” the red headed individual with a blonde streak replied, “some say I visit locals that seem ruffled.”

“No, I did not get any potatoe chips.”

“Potatoe chips,” Rufo sounded a little stunned, “I did not say anything about potatoe chips, come let’s have a little chit chat at the coffee shop.”

Dixon followed the little fellow into the local café and they both ordered then found seats in order to converse.

“So, what happened, why do you not play?”

And Dixon remembered it all dated back to a time when he didn’t win.

A Gambler’s Tale

Wearing a Navy uniform Dixon found himself with time on his hand and with an evening to spend in the port the youngster just out of high school looked at the other dock to see a nightly Casino cruise line trying to lure passengers aboard to take a voyage into International waters.

“The Lottery Queen,” Dixon mentioned to himself as he walked to the ticket booth.

Pulling out the Navy Federal Card Dixon made the purchase for one then proceeded to take the walkway to board the small boat that had a restaurant, showroom lounge and Casino.

“We sail in a few minutes,” a voice came out from nowhere which meant the military seaman might have been seeing things in his mind.

Turning around he saw the young lady dressed in traditional promotional fashion handing out scratch off tickets that all stated 20% off the buffet. “Here is a buffet coupon,” she handed him the prop, “my name is Miss Tom Tom if you need anything,”

Before explaining that he was on shore leave the image faded away. Brushing the interaction off like he did the coupon he proceeded through the electrical machines that had flashy sirens that programmed someone just took home a financial victory. With all this excitement Dixon sat down at one of them nicknamed Texas Dolly. With its wild wild west cartoons all over the gaming computer Dixon decided to give this one a chance.

First there was some nice luck as the boat smoothly left port. Then a chop happened, and Dixon felt the rock, then another chop came as the wakes started to appear outside the small circular window. Dixon never panicked during this time watching the credit number return to zero.

“I just lost a twenty,” he thought to himself as the cruise line made a circle around the island where Dixon’s battleship was on leave. He put in another twenty followed by another and the chops got bigger and the wakes were very visible.

Feeling very queasy Dixon decided to stop this tugboat style tease only to head into the lounge where the bar was situated, and Miss Tom Tom was behind the mike singing a few notes.

“You know I can count the number of notes the Miss Tom Tom sings,” the bartender interrupted Dixon’s silence.

“What do you mean?”

“Every note represents a secret message to win on the electronic machines,” the cocktail creator replied, “my name is JM, and this is the Jack of Hearts bar,” he stated with a wink.

Looking down there was another device that had cards from a deck. “Put a Lincoln in and try again I betcha things will different if you listen to Miss Tom Tom.”

And Dixon took the advice then decided to sacrifice a five-dollar bill, “And a one and a two and a three,” JM said under his breath smiling at Miss Tom Tom. As if JM was a soothsayer the machine displayed the Jack of Hearts flush, the biggest hand in the deck. Dixon watched the payout number increase spinning like a top. Dixon had a stare of amazement as it had an amusing value.

When it stopped Dixon noticed it not only won the money back but paid for the ticket he bought at the booth.

“Thank you for your service, son,” JM saluted and when Dixon turned around, he saw Miss Tom Tom give a flirty sign of appreciation.
“Why don’t you go out on the deck, son and enjoy the sea,” JM suggested.

Ending Up with The Right Cards

“And that is what I did,” Dixon told Rufo, “did you enjoy my Gambler’s Tale,” he put down the cup of coffee.

“You said you did not win Dixon,” Rufo wanted to clarify.

“I said I got a second wind, Rufo,” Dixon made sure the message was clear, “and today I enjoy this island paradise with all its calm tranquil lagoons.”

Feeling a little bit ruffled Rufo shook the veterans hand knowing that Dixon did win and it his message was food for thought.
