Conversing While In Flight

While picking at the waffle cracker airline food that he charged to a credit card the clouds caught the eye of Ben Salem as the plane crossed the skies to its next destination. He had no clue why he was in this position since it was only a week ago he was celebrating the time of his life.

As the aerial formation passed Ben had his visual conversation interrupted when the person next to him stuck her nose into the viewing, “this jets bookin,” she said.

Ben then woke up from his eerie concentration to notice the passenger’s kinkie boots that were very luring.

“So, why are you flying today?” she now had his attention.

“To see a doctor about something called NASH,”

“Are you sure you are not going to a MASH?” the seventies image was now being curious.

“No, they called it NASH, Non-Alcoholic steatohepatitis,” Ben tried to explain, “it’s a fatty liver disease.”

“It must have been something you ate,” the inquisitor came back with a quick diagnosis, “I actually was reading about NASH in one of my women’s magazine after the article I concluded it comes when you eat liver with nonalcoholic Long Island ice tea.

“You think so?” Ben was now in talkative activity with the tease.

“Yupper I do,” she reassured him while she closed her eyes, “now you be well.” Was the final thing she said before Ben went back into a reflective think tank.

It was a week ago when Ben was partying like a rock star during a convention that honored the artist Rene Magritte. It was a unique way to display an exhibition and in a way the work of the early 20th century painter fit really well into the event sponsored by a mysterious donor.

While sitting in a corner drinking a Dr. Pepper a dancer named Gray Matter approached him with the question, she was scripted in asking, “Dance with Me BW,” mouthed and Ben Salem agreed to the proposition. When he accepted the ballroom went from a setting that was waiting for a storm front to a picturesque post card that was inside a rainbow.

“Enjoy the colors in motion,” Gray Matters guided her partner into a feeling the freedom of artistic expression.

As the plane made its descent Ben opened his eyes and the image with Kinkie Boots was packing up her gear before departing.

“Excuse me maam,” Ben Salem interrupted, “why do you think it was something I ate?”

“When gray matters one needs a nice swift colorful kick,” she started to explain “and when your diet is nonalcoholic Long Island Ice Teas with liver then you need a pick me up.”

“Like what?”

“I am gray matters, we had dinner after I danced with you, you ordered liver with a nonalcoholic Long Island iced tea and I said that is going to make you sick.”

Like a rush of memories Ben Salem remembered that and instigated the question, “why didn’t I pick you up. “

“You got sick from having liver with a non-alcoholic beverage.”

“NASH,” Ben confirmed.

“Yeah and I took you to a MASH thing that was on the Hollywood set and they gave us a name of a doctor who can look at you to see what was wrong.”

“Oh Yeah, “Ben finally remembered as the plane touched the ground.
