Angels and Umbrellas

A broken mirror in front of a child born innocent and sweet reflects light from a candle held by a boy full of ambitions and dreams.
Father Time wouldn’t keep waiting, his confidence begins fading, along with the light in his reflection. What was once a mirror, now a mural stained with imperfections.
In the faint illumination all he could see was a hand reaching out from his shadow. Gripping it tight he goes on the run. Soon a darkness became eclipsing the sun. A forecast of heavy rains was certain to come. Cold frigid air starts to set in along with his emotional numbness. A boy now lost without his moral compass.
The scent of rain soon became colossal and
inside the darkness stood a soul holding an umbrella, and a white knuckled bottle.
Locked around his neck, you could barely see
the sparkle of light off of a skeleton key.
He slowly approached the boy as calm as can be.
"Come my child before it rains. Get under my umbrella I’ll keep you safe.
Hurry go hide deep down in my cellar.
I’ll protect you from the storm, I’ll be your shelter.
I’ll be your blanket, your armor, your wall.
Pour your heartaches and sorrows in my bottle and I’ll swallow them all."
As the clouds grew darker, the more rain it was making. Waters kept rising, a child's complexion kept fading. As the cellar takes on water, the soul realized the mistake he was making.
A cellar now too dangerous he put the boy in for safety. One last option left before another life's wasted he falls to his knees hands in fist and starts praying.
"God I know why I’m here it's because I stopped praying. But if you really forgive and saved my place up in heaven I’ll trade it for fire to relight the boys candle.
Please God please, I’m begging!!
Please God just make it stop raining!!"
As the clouds started parting, sunshine starts escaping. With a new lit flame, the boy slowly awakens.Out in the sunlight, his first steps he was taking. Both feet on solid ground, he sees the soul start fading.
"Wait before you go I must know. Who are you? And why did you save me?"

"I too was a child who thought my mirror was broken so I shattered the mural of darkness that couldn’t be unwoken.
I took the Bible off my nightstand and made my final judgement.
I sentenced the Spirit in the book to life inside my bottle. I took him down to my wine cellar and fed him to my demons. I swallowed it down to the last two drops and blew one last breath.
Out of one hand dropped a bottle and the other a blown out candle.
The smoke from the burned out wick formed into the shadow of the wicked. I took his hand and boarded his train. Now I'm stuck a midnight stowaway. But now it’s so bright, it’s easy to see.
It wasn’t me that saved you, but it was you that saved me. Thank you my child I am finally free
I’m your guardian Angel now I just earned my wings."
Behind a line in the sand all that was left was a set of footprints and some shattered glass.
In front of the line were these words inscribed on a key “With this you will find all the answers you seek."
Behind a locked door, right in front of his eyes was
a mantel full of pictures and dusty Bible on the side. With a new light and a new vision, he saw what the photos reflected.
The images of the life of a husband and father.
He has a beautiful wife, and four beautiful daughters. All of a sudden it became so crystal clear. The boy once lost, had a map in front of him all these years.
Inside the bedroom he finds five angels sleeping,
an extra pillow and empty space where he’s supposed to be laying. He couldn't believe they saved it all of these years and kept waiting.
Kissed their cheeks, lit a candle on the nightstand
and falls to his knees and starts praying.
"God are you there? I came to rejoice, you probably don’t even recognize the sound of my voice. I’m so sorry I was lost for so long. I couldn’t handle the bad weather. God it’s me..the lost boy from the cellar. I want to thank you for releasing my spirit from his glass prison. Giving him wings and letting him fly forever a guardian angel by my side.
But now it’s my time to be the guardian of five.
For these angels I know I can never be forgiven.
But if you could do one more thing and just help correct their vision. Only the part that helps them see just how much I love them, and my heart will always hug them. I promise to find a way to make things right. Help them understand why I now hold my candle so tight. And if you send them a storm and make it rain, please God give me the strength.
To be their umbrella, their blanket, their wall, all of their heartaches to you I’ll give all.
Your prayers have burned and scar in my heart, I’ll never forget them again.
Forever their candles will be under my protection, if you will be the light in their reflection.
Thank you, good night and Amen."
