a letter in the post - pt 6 - moonbeam day one

by

I woke up very early this morning, outside by the washrooms. a good 30 feet away from my car. i got up out of the dirt, and stumbled back to it. the doors were locked and i never lock it, who would steal betty? but i had my keys in my pocket. so i opened the door and got in. i have no memory of getting up, leaving the car. i fumbled in the glove compartment for my old pack of smokes i take everywhere incase the world ends, and pushed in the cigarette lighter. i know i know i should just quit all the way. well i had to shake the fuzz from my brain, so as i was waiting for the lighter to heat up, i was racking my brain, trying to remember if i had gotten up to go to the bathroom and passed out, was i that tired that i fell asleep outdoors? nothing in the car was disturbed. nothing moved out of place. finally i was able to smoke my cigarette and i got out of there.
i was quite shaken up, and discombobulated, so i decided to stop in this town called Moonbeam. i am staying at The Moose Motel. yep theres a steel moose out in front. i asked the mechanic if he could check out my radio. i miss The CBC. i was eating dinner at the local restaurant, smooth rock cafe, when he texted me and asked why my odometre was set to 0. like how could that be possible? i have been driving for days. i told him i had no clue. he said my radio had a burnt fuse so he fixed it and now it works. i need the news to keep track of the days. at the elongated tone, the time is 1pm.
anyway i am at the motel now, for the night. theres some dude next door smoking. i went and said hello. his name is darren, he is headed for texas. i asked him if he was experiencing anything strange on the roads and he looked at me as if i grew horns and feathers, and finished his smoke and went inside.
people are weird. i am listening to music in the hotel room. one of those cassettes i bought was the foo fighters. i am so exhausted i might stay here an extra day. i will decide when i drop this off at the post office/liquor store tomorrow.
