Contest Description

Ever wish your favorite song had more verses? Or that “your song” had even more lyrics that described your feelings or relationship perfectly? Well, here's your chance!

Submit one new poem in Lyric form, that could be an additional verse or lyric to one of your favorite songs.

The key to placing here is to make it as seamless as possible…I want to almost believe it actually IS the original lyrics! Get the same rhythm, pattern, tone, emotions, length, and continue a similar message as the original song.

DO NOT:

…write your name on the poem or in any way identify yourself as the author. These contests are meant to be anonymous to avoid favoritism.

…submit off theme poems

…submit poems written by AI

…choose Holiday songs (no no)

All other genres of music will be accepted.

DO:

If you have the know-how then please… Add audio of the original song OR a link to it. If you are like me and struggle with that stuff lol…simply include the original lyrics written out in the POET’S NOTES section. Include the name of the artist or band and also…

Important! Write the name of the song and artist or band at the top of your poem, followed by your poem…(the lyrics YOU write). I won’t have access to your notes while judging and will need to listen to your song to be able to judge your lyrics properly.

The name of the song will be your title Write up to 20 lines( give or take) If you would like to see an example, you're welcome to read mine.... there are two

Another example for the Write Your Fave Song Poetry Contest I chose a song I believe the majority of us know…

Original song: Amazing Grace by John Newton

Here is the first verse:

Amazing grace how sweet the sound

that saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now I’m found

was blind but now …I see.

The lyrics I wrote:

I met the Savior in my youth/ but still knew I had sinned/ I learned of his amazing truth / then I was baptized in

And as my life went rushing by/ At times I turned away/ but Jesus saved me everytime/ when on my knees I prayed

The Lord has been so good to me/ My family and my friends/ I know one day His face I’ll see/ To His Kingdom enter in

Just a note to say,” thank you”, to all those who have been participating in my contests. I often make mistakes and you keep coming back anyway! So, thank you for your kindness and for sharing your considerable talents with me! I've grown so much as a writer since joining PS…I owe that to all of you! Have fun writing your favorite song! God bless you!

A Note to Poetry Contestants

You are welcome to enter this contest, whether or not you won a prize in one of my previous contests.

Note from Sponsor:

Attention all who have entered and will enter... please read the instructions carefully. I'm not looking for a song written completely by you. I want you to think of your favorite song, such as you'd hear on the radio or you might own the album, then write an additional verse or two in the same style, theme etc as if it were part of that song. If you need further direction, please read the two examples I've given.
