Contest Description

The FIFA Women's Word Cup 2023 is in full swing!  Australia and New Zealand are hosting the tournament from  20 July to 20 August 2023.  The official slogan is "Beyond Greatness;"  the Official Mascot is Tazuni, a fun, football-loving penguin; and the Official Song is "Do It Again" by BENEE ft. Mallrat.  The FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 is on track to become the most attended standalone women's sports event ever.

What to Submit?

1 original poem on the theme of the Women's World Cup football/soccer.  The contest theme is not just limited to this year's Women's World Cup but relates to the sport of football/soccer in general, encompassing the past, present, and future.

For example, you might compare women's with men's World Cup football. Or, you could write about how football has affected your life (positive or negative effect) when you were growing up, or even affects you now. Have you ever attended a World Cup match?  You could write about the player(s) or team(s) you love, or those you love less; a favorite moment in Women's World Cup history; whether or not you even like football. You could write about how your spouse or significant other did or didn't like football and you were just the opposite.  What did you do when your spouse was engrossed in the World Cup, or football in general?  Or what did they do when you were?  How do you feel about FIFA?  Which team do you feel will win first place?  Any feelings about whether or not the United States Women's National Team will repeat as champions?  What about the gender pay gap? There are so many different ways you could go with this.

Any form is acceptable from one line up to a MAXIMUM OF 50 LINES.  Choose your own title.  Please do not put your name anywhere on your submission.

A Note to Poetry Contestants

You are welcome to enter this contest, whether or not you won a prize in one of my previous contests.  Also, your poem does not have to be new.  Any poem in harmony with the World Cup theme that you have written in the past that meets the 50-line maximum guideline is acceptable.  The only exceptions are poems that were placed in the top ten in my 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup or 2018 Men's World Cup contests do not qualify for submission.

I eagerly anticipate reading the exciting, joyful, energetic, passionate, blissful, raging, and angst-filled poetry that will be generated by you fans out there.  See you on the pitch!
