Monterey Sirak Biography

I retired from a nursing career to live a simple life in the country and write. I self
published my first book of poetry, The River of Liquid Dreams. Small presses published two more, In The Presence of Shadows, and Faith Like A Dandelion. I had the honor of having one of my poems recited in a documentary produced by the Canadian Institute on Child Health, The Healing Journey. I give poetry readings and judge performance poetry competitions.

Dropping by to read some of the comments. It seems you have done her proud. Well done Monterey, she would be so proud of the lovely warm hearted woman you have become.

OH, to think what she might have become. Probably a poet to rival her sister. You are an incredible writer and I just know she would have been the same. This is the kind of post I love to see, someone honoring a poet and it is all the more poignant for having been your dear sister.

Oh thank you. I think she would have been a wonderful writer. I would have had to stay on my toes and keep pushing myself to keep up with her.

Sometimes I think I still haven't attained the wisdom she had in her few years.

We shared the win for a writing contest when we were in grade school. We re-wrote Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head into Sleigh Bells Keep Ringing In My Ears for a Christmas song contest. I seem to remember she did most of the writing and I just threw out the occasional idea but she gave me credit anyway.

At fourteen years old, your dear sister had such insight and wisdom, to see the world and the beauty within, with a beautiful heart. That was truly her unique gift, and for you, her words will always be a part of her legacy.....such a precious thing you can keep close to your own heart. Beautiful blog, Monterery!

What an amazing piece for a fourteen year old to have penned. The last lines are erie and prophetic. I am greatly moved by your words as well and how they tie into her writing. It is wonderful that she left this gift for you to discover. I am glad that the color poured back into your life and that you now share your colors with us.

I thought the same thing about the last lines. Her time was running out and this was her last full autumn.
