I retired from a nursing career to live a simple life in the country and write. I self
published my first book of poetry, The River of Liquid Dreams. Small presses published two more, In The Presence of Shadows, and Faith Like A Dandelion. I had the honor of having one of my poems recited in a documentary produced by the Canadian Institute on Child Health, The Healing Journey. I give poetry readings and judge performance poetry competitions.

wow, Caleb went crazy on this one and left you lots of remarks!! Hmmmm, it's his last remark that fits Joe and I the best. Just every day showing consideration. IN the end, that is what counts. Joe is not too imaginative, but one year he surprised me with a beautiful rabbit fur coat. (sorry animal rights lovers. It was a long long time ago and it truly was beautiful) and he even bought me flowers one year!!! haha. I remember making a huge Valentine card one time using different candy bars glued on it as words in the poster . We give each other little treats or gifts. We will likely eat out today, a big treat for me. We rarely eat out! Maybe to Five Guys!! yum.

I think it is great when the bigger gestures don't come every day, they would lose something. When they let their imagination soar and surprise us, it is the sweetest gift.

But those are just things..stuff. I think it's the everyday things that really show someone you love them. I try to show her I love her each day..and I do. She's my wife but also my best friend, and I'm blessed to have a woman that has always given me all her love.

I love your stories of the lights and the limo. Grand gestures are fun, but it is the day to day caring that builds a life together.

I guess if you were to ask her, the most romantic thing I ever did was on her birthday one year when we were dating. I was supposed to take her out but I called 5 minutes before time to pick her up and told her I was broke down at the rest stop 20 miles away and I needed her to come pick me up...ha. When she arrived and walked behind my truck to look, I had the limo driver swing in behind her and I got out of the back. Shoulda seen her face. We drove to the capital and had dinner at a fancy restaurant. Then we came back to her hometown and cruised around in the limo while she hung out the top and made me do it too...think she might have wanted to show off her man..lol

Lord knows how long it took her to set them up...it was a huge display. And there she was, right in the middle of it...decorated in a skimpy outfit covered in lights...haha. I'm not saying that's my favorite thing she's ever done for me,(a big to-do and a lot of work...and funny) but it was the one she probably spent the most time on. But even after being married for 12 years, she still does crazy stuff for me, and she's sweeter now than ever.

Well, I guess the most romantic gesture I've ever gotten would have to be when my wife and I were dating. When I came out one morning to go to work, there was a teddy bear with a note on it. After work, I followed the clues on the note and found a book(E.A. Poe) It also had a note which led me to a candle-lit dinner she had spent all day preparing. She then said she was going to change and for me to go to the living room where a cold beer was waiting for me. It had a note on it. The note told me to go outside and climb the ladder leaned against the house. I did, and when I climbed to the peak of the roof, the entire back yard was decorated in bright lights which read, I LOVE YOU CALEB!

Hugs to you. Everything came as a wonderful surprise, the rain, the love, the new husband. I was determined to spend the rest of my life alone, but God had other plans for me.

for me, love and romance can be found in the mundane, the small gestures in everyday life...just a word, a certain look or smile, a caring gesture, all say 'love' in their own way...really, I can see romance everywhere! (not least of all right here on this site hehe) :)
