I was going to title the blog "Tentacles" but those made their appearance yesterday, so we are left with a non-gimmicky title. Oh, well: "Such is life in the tropics..."

Today's entries were chosen for no particular reason beyond that I wanted to recite them. I've still haven't reached the point were I am 100% happy with the results, but my readings of each achieve something better than perfect: They are good enough.

I had a very particular effect that I wanted to achieve through the titles. See, when you read about the I Ching, the names of the hexes are very cryptic. They are foreign. They are impenetrable at first reading and the symbology is incompatible with Western culture. For example, we are used to the four elements as being Fire, Wind, Air, and Water. The I Ching, sure also has Fire, but it sorta means something different, and beyond, it has Lake, and Thunder, and Mountain, and there is Mother, Father, First Son, First Daughter, Second Son, etc. It is not logical in the way we think of those things. It all is CRYPTIC. And that is what I was after.  Impenetrable titles that seem to suggest... alieness. Still, I agree with the distinguished poet who suggested it, that they need, as the kids nowadays say, "regular ass" titles.  Maybe I have been myopic in regarding them as mere parts of a whole.  And, sure, they are. BUT, too, I should let them breathe, give them a little space and independence. Let them borrow the car to go to the store once in a while, so to speak. Then I noticed I've already been baptizing them. Since I do not know what their titles mean either, I have used one or two word names for their related files in my computer.  Maybe, once I make it official, their titles may change, but for now, 42 is "Mud Tracked" and 45 is "Congeries".
