Born and raised most of my childhood in the Mexican border town of Matamoros, Tamaulipas. Have been writing poetry most of my life for some still-undiscovered reason.

A Septuagenarian and a Song

But it would also be a mistake to assume my poems are not autobiographical. For example, one of today's entries describes a moment as it actually happened. Seeing an elder gentleman, with a deformity, in church, yet obviously, loved and having lived a full life, surrounded by loved ones. Inspiring humility in me. Everyone you meet, everyone surrounding you, is living an epic life.  As metaphors go, it is pretty straightforward. Love is like a benign tumor that deforms, it changes you, not always in ways that one may find convenient, or even beautiful.

The other poem is the first of the series.  It was just coincidence that it ended up being one of the "songs".   And what are the "songs"? Glad you asked! The "songs" aren't songs. Rather, they are a number of poems that I wrote using a different process. I'd have such a hard time with writer's block, that I came up with an idea: Research a year in popular music, read lyrics of the top songs, put it in a brain blender, and write a poem using phrases, imagery, of those lyrics, and finally, write it so that it gives the impression that they are lyrics.  There is a particuar FEELING I remember from when I would buy a new album and read lyrics before having heard the songs. I attempt to mimic that feeling with these poems.  Reason why they aren't lyrics, they are "lyrics" or "songs". I seriously doubt, though, that anyone would be able to put them to music.
