What can I say?  My picture above shows you that I have lived a long time.  It was taken in 2008 for our church registry.

I was a stay at home mom until my last child was in school.  I was widowed when I was forty four and was glad that I was already employed at the local radio station.  I stayed in the same job for thirty years and after I retired at 65 and took a trip to Europe with a friend, I started working again and stayed for another ten years.  I have only been writing poetry since 1999 when I wrote to relieve my grief when my only son died.  I married again four years after my husband died and was widowed again in 1995.  I am an avid gardener and belong to two local garden clubs and am on the board of the district club and state garden club so have lots of meetings to attend. I have my own poetry corner in the state garden club's publication. I live in my home by myself and rent my farm land to a local bulb grower.  I am surrounded by beauty.  All of mv family lives close to me.  Two daughters, six grandchildren,
eleven great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. We live in Washington State in Northwest Washington and love it here.

News Flash

Last night my tv program was interrupted with a news flash and never came back.  The entire evening tv coverge was on the fact that one of our Washington State main bridges had fallen in the river.  It turned out it was our own I5 bridge here between Mount Vernon and Burlington. I panicked because at any given time some of my family is on that bridge. As it turned out one of my granddaughters had crossed over on it just about 5 minutes before it fell. Two cars and three people fell into the river and got tangled up in the iron grid of the fallen construction.  It took about about three hours to get them all out because of the danger and they were taken to local hospitals with hyothermia. The Skagit River is big. deep, with heavy current and cold this time of year.  We were very lucky.  Not quite the disaster that some states have suffered but it will be a big mess around here for a long time.  There are two other bridges that will have to take over.  One is small and old on a narrow road and the other one leads right through the main part of Burlington, but this one was the bridge on the main road between all points south and the Canadian border.  Lots of big trucks use it and in fact it turns out that one of these trucks had hit a corner of the girder and caused it to buckle.  I need to cross that river twice on my way to the cemetary at Burlington to decorate graves tomorrow.  I expect to be caught in traffic but we will have to get used to it. Joyce

I'm so glad your family is safe, Joyce...and thank God no one was killed! That is a miracle. We've crossed over this bridge ourselves many times while visiting your state...it is a scary thought to think how quickly, and unexpectedly this came tumbling down!!
