       I started writing poetry in February of 2012; getting started by writing poems for a story I was writing, and I have been writing them ever since. I enjoy learning more about the intricacies of poetry, and watching as my poetic skills gradually increase. I have been having a blast trying out some of the different forms here on The Soup and chatting with many people that share a common interest.

        I wrote my first real short story when I was twelve; quickly finding out that I enjoyed writing, although I was not very good at it. I attended a writing class for a year, which drastically improved my writing skills and helped me to more accurately transfer my thoughts to the page. Of course, this helps a lot with poetry too.
        One of my favorite authors is G. A. Henty; if someone said that my work was nearly as good as his, then I would consider myself a successful author, (although it is not there yet). I have also been influenced somewhat by the writings of Gilbert Morris and Howard Pyle.
        My goal in writing is to provide wholesome Christian stories and poems that will be helpful to whoever reads them; stories that promote Christian character, virtue, and reliance upon God. This is the reason that I often include scripture passages and prayers in my work.
        I am very thankful that I have been raised in a Christian home, and that Jesus  is the Lord of my life. This may come as a surprise to some, but I would not be  the author that I am today without Jesus, as He has provided a whole new perspective to my life.

        I also enjoy playing and writing music (many times for poems that I or a friend have written); I play mostly piano, acoustic guitar, and fiddle.

        Thank you for reading! I hope my poems can be a source of blessing and encouragement.

I Bid You All Farewell For But A Time

Blog Posted by Isaiah Zerbst: 2/2/2015 11:26:00 AM

The time for my poem "This Year" has arrived. Here is a quintain from it.

I've decided to quit hanging around with my mouth closed;

I'll  more engaging, meet people I never knew:

Maybe I'll do some things to which I've previously been opposed.

And I have a hunch I'll go to a country I've never been, and do

Some things I've never done. I'm sure it will all be new.

I'm headed for Guatemala on a missions trip, and will not have internet access until I return, which will be in March or April. So in case you are wondering why I will not be around the soup, or why I have not responded to your comments or any attempts to reach me, it will simply be because I am absent; I am certainly not ignoring you, my poet friends! I will catch up best I can when I return. Untill then, I bless you all with wishes of happy life and incridible poems. From those of you who are praying folks, I would sure appreciate prayer for my journey if you happen to think of me.

Adios, mi amigos! Hasta luego!

I will miss you, Isaiah, but it sounds like you are doing a very admirable thing. Do you know Spanish? That would be so cool to go there and practice Spanish while doing something good! See you SOON. Time goes very fast.

Be safe & remember even if you are trying to do good not every person can or will accept your gesture in the way it is meant. More than one third of Guatemalans are Protestant, chiefly Evangelicals and Pentecostals. Those of Mayan origin have their own belief systems as well http://www.criscenzo.com/jaguarsun/mayanow.html - Be safe, stay well, enjoy the experience. Light & Love
