I guess you could say I'm a citizen of the world. I've traveled....and I've lived parts of my life in Iran, Lebanon, the US, and Cyprus. I am proud of my Armenian heritage. I was born in Tehran, Iran and soon after that, my family went to the States for my dad to work on his MA degree and many years later, to work on his Ed.D. I have a lot of the Middle East and the West in me, and at times....I feel confused about my identity. I do, however, cling to my Armenian roots and am outspoken about recognition by the world of the Armenian Genocide that took place over 100 years ago.

Since my parents had no common language, the language spoken in our home was English. Yes, I am most fluent in English, and I think, dream, and converse in that language, though I do speak 5 other languages to varying degrees! :)

I am melancholy/sanguine by nature and feel everything very keenly. My highs are SUPER HIGH...and my lows...SUPER LOW! I guess you could say...I'm INTENSE. I'm passionate about poetry to the point of obsession.

The events that have colored my life are the death of my mother due to MS and the war in Lebanon. As a child, it was hard for me to come to grips with the fact that my mother was ill, and to see her go from being a vibrant, well-loved teacher to a wheelchair bound, isolated woman was a very harrowing experience. I do believe, though, that there is a resurrection day and that, by His grace, I will see my Mama fully restored...free of wheelchair, able to sing, laugh, and smile again. The war in Lebanon...bombs landing all around, nights spent in bomb shelters.. has also scarred me to some degree.

What I'm most proud of? That would be my daughter...Shereen Natalie Ghali. She is the light of my life. Her name in Farsi means SWEET! :)

Currently, I teach English at Middle East University in Beirut, Lebanon. Poetry Soup has been a haven for me....most of the time! ;) I've developed amazing friendships here that are very genuine and real. My dream is to one day have my name on a volume of poetry! One can always dream....Thank you for making the effort to get acquainted. God bless!

Dear Friends,

Hope all is well with all of you. I'm just writing to touch bases with many of you with whom I've lost contact. There are several reasons for that. Summer had me traveling to different places with my family, but also it provided an opportunity for me to follow up on some health issues that I've been dealing with. That slowed me down some.

Also, once the academic year started, I got busy. I also somehow lost touch with my muse. I want to thank Paul Callus for always encouraging me to write and collaborating with me. I've just posted a poem that is a collab with him. It's entitled, "Dancing Desire".

I'm writing to you from Bogenhofen, Austria, where I've been sent by Middle East University to do an intensive on English Composition I, which is a course I'm teaching at Middle East University. It took some planning to get sub-teachers to fill in for my three courses, but thankfully, it all worked out. Here, I teach eight hours a day, which is quite taxing, but today I'm going on an outing to Salzburg to see the wonderful sights. I especially look forward to seeing the places where Mozard lived and composed.

Please be patient with me if I haven't responded to your visits to my poems. I have the weekend off, so I hope that I will be able to catch up. :)

Blessings to you all,

Eileen

PS...I'm teaching in an actual castle....how awesome is that! :)

If you have the time and the inclination, watch the video I've posted about this awesome place. :) I'm enthralled.

My view when I'm having my meal at the cafeteria. I love that weeping willow tree. The pictures just don't do it justice.

Thanks ever so much Line. It was a lovely place...dreamy, in fact. However, I was busy correcting papers and had no time to write. However, the memories will provide inspiration in free time, I'm sure. Hugs

So cool, enjoy the adventure! I too have not been spending much time here. It seems my muse is still on vacation and time seems so short. I have lots going on but it is good. Take care, hugs Rick.

Thankfully, I'm told my students love my teaching style and methods...so I guess that's what's important. :) I have 3 more days to go! 8 hours of teaching day is tough, but I enjoy it. Thanks for the visit.

Thanks, Rob. I feel bad about not being part of the community as much. I do hope to be able to get into the swing of things when I have time. I'm glad you watched the video. It's an amazing place. I fell on the very first night I was here! It was dark and I was trying to get to my guest room. I was passing by the creek when a fish jumped out of the water...the sound frightened me, and I lost my footing and fell sprawling to the ground! Thankfully my students weren't around! My keys popped out of my bag, and I didn't notice. My blouse popped open and by the time I got to my room and found out I had lost my keys...I was a mess! Yes, I will have experiences to share...

Oh Eileen it looks like you are having an awesome time with work, how amazing is that view. Don't worry about being away from soup, I've had a break from writing recently. I know there are many missing I'm particularly concerned about Mick Talbot - I've mailed several times and had no response and Regina Elliot's account seems to have gone - I think she was victim to a soup moron:-( As long as you dip into soup from time to time that's the important thing:-) When are we seeing rhymes of the times again!!!:-) hugs jan xx

Hi, dear Jan. I've missed being in touch with you! I hope all is well. I'm sad that some of your friends seem to be MIA. That's always hard to take...believe me, I know. This is a wonderful place. It's been an enriching experience for me. I'll have to work on Rhymes of the Times again. You lift me up, dear. Sending hugs XOXOXO

I know! I can't believe it either. I walk around in a daze. I guess people who live here have become desensitized to the beauty. Some mornings there is a blanket of fog everywhere which just fills my heart with wonder. Thanks so much for the visit, dear. You've always been good to me. :)

Hi Eileen, No apologies or explanations needed and I think I speak for many when I say that. We all lead busy lives and it's not always possible to get on 'soup' That place looks truly amazing, enjoy every minute you're there. You'll without doubt take away some awesome memories . There is no better poet to have at your side than Paul. Regards. Tom.

Thanks for the visit and encouragement, Tom. Thing is...I don't want to be forgotten. It's easy to forget someone who isn't present reading and posting comments. I understand that. I hope to get back to writing soon. Memories are for a lifetime. I'm blessed and fortunate. God is good. :)
