JASMINE BURBEK, just had over 7 poems removed from this site that she stole. Her poem Blowing in the wind won in a contest was actually a 1970's era song written by Shel Silverstein. She now has promptly changed her name to Misunderstood poetess. And wrote a hate filled poem, "STUPID OLD MAN" about an old man that turned her in here .. ACTUALLY HER POEM IS LIBEL...(LIES) Then blocked that person from commenting on her new poems. lol

Wow, I found a number of my poems that have been copied to other sites too. But (so far) it seems like my name has at least been credited where my poems are used. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Faye. It's such a shame that people have the audacity to steal your poetry and the poetry of others here on PS.

I went back to DeviantArt and found that my "stolen" poem is in fact still there. I also found more poems plagiarized by the same person: "(A) Safe Harbor" by Katherine Stella; "From My Window" by Elaine George; "Almost Dreaming" by David Mohn (now 'Daydreaming').

I know these things will happen, but if I can I want to fight people like this. If we all just say, "well, it happens" . . . it will happen more and more.

Hi Paul, I had to join DeviantArt and then fill out their complaint form. They had me complete a form for stolen works. I had to include links to my poem here and to where the other person had posted my poem. They took it down immediately. If he has three verifiable complaints, he is supposed to be kicked off the site.
Date: 9/8/2015 7:18:00 PM
I've tried googling a few titles of my own poems, but nothing has been found. And some of them, the title is also the first line or another line of a poem. Since your poems have been online, maybe it's time you had them published. Nobody would dare copy a currently copy righted poem.

Maybe a poetry Website IS NOT a good idea before it's out in print. Even P Soup adding a Copyright doesn't help (no registration of the document). Edlynn Nau

GRETCHEN CRUZ, stole my poem and reposted it here. You guys have that poem listed here and at your sister sites as her--copyrighted as hers. This important issue needs to be resolved. I have sent 4 or 5 prior requests for administration here to make a decision and do what is right! Otherwise in my opinion you guys are aiding her in this theft by your inaction... Contact me either here or by way of my email . Robert J. Lindley p.s. I find it very strange that this request has gone unanswered this long.. SENT TONIGHT TO ADMIN HERE..

Back again Faye. My abuse link to "Unspoken Words" was: http://ljosalfrmanen.deviantart.com/art/Unspoken-Words-Engelsk-543525431 I went back to check, and the poem must have now been deleted, although DeviantArt have not informed me of any action taken.

Poem Zoom » Poems » Sex Wrapped In A Song by Robert Lindley At this site shown above my poem is clearly shown to be be copyrighted. Yet at PoetrySoup.com it is not. I am finding dozens of my poems stolen and suspect that no clear copyrightwarning presented here at the Soup leads many to think they can just steal our poems.. My request and suggestion is admin here CLEARLY SHOWS each poem copyrighted immediately upon its first presentation here. You do that on your sister site-- why not here!?? Recent example-- found today Poetry/music | Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Poetrymusic/567222916747882 Sex Wrapped In A Song "I saw the dark in your praise," as you spread on that rich glaze Treasure I sought cried play along, this girl has sex wrapped in a song!

I am glad All Poetry was so quick to respond. I have not heard from DeviantArt. That site is rather bulky and not easy to navigate. I know there is a limit to what any of us can do, but if we all just turn away, these people win.

Jan, I think Allpoetry must be inhabited by a bunch of low class creeps. Unbelievable! Please complain, and while you are at it, let them know about me too. If I ever find a lot of free time, I need to check that place out more thoroughly and write down names of anything else of mine maybe stolen to tell the staff over there about. I am sure there must be poets over there stealing like crazy from other poets here at Soup! (I like to think Soup is the GOOD site with honest people on it. Hope I am not being blinded by love!)
Date: 8/29/2015 4:58:00 PM
Faye, I just googled the first line of Cinder Girl, my most "popular" poem. I see already it has been stolen by a least five people. That was just the first page of google. I don't know how to navigate blogs. Bloggers are claiming it. Someone at Allpoetry, some are calling it "untitled" and claiming it. I would never have time to track down all my best poems and try to have them removed from these sites. It sickens me that people are trying to say they wrote my stuff, but honestly, how do we have time to sign up to all these web sites just to let the people know? It took me months to learn how to navigate Soup. I can only imagine the plight of other poems I wrote! (Imitation is flattery ha!)

I have been using Goggle to do this for about 9 months now. Found several dozen cases of some of my (700)poems being stolen. Also found many cases that were "fair use" and cited me as the author. Those are legal and I have no problem with. Even found one person that pretended he co-wrote my poem with me and then went on to explain what the poem meant! He could not have been more wrong on its meaning. To date , I just check out of idle curiosity, have taken no action at all.

I've found one of my poems written for one of Shadow's contest and it is credited to her... but at least it is credited - many simply appear on pages nameless - thanks to the blog I have found my first poem written by me in October yet copyrighted by someone 6 months ago:-( hugs jan xx

I think the fair use are very nice. Be careful about putting names of judges on bottom of your poems. I don't even remember entering Cinder girl in John Heck's contest but I must have. His name is shown as the author of it at some weibsite.

Several cases I found on mine they used the poem to make a profit directly or to sell a service/course that they offered. Both are illegal, as mine are copyrighted.

It is what it is. I do not mind someone quoting it for enjoyment purposes if they include my name and copyright date. For business purposes and to steal it, it is really low down.
Date: 8/29/2015 1:45:00 PM
So now I google that Little Wishes poem I mentioned in my blog and have found a bunch more people using and not sighting me...where is the legal line I have to stand on...there is one person using it in a business sense and that does not seem fair but there is another who says Author Unknown...and another says I do not take credit as writing this after they posted it but still is without my name... what would be the next course of action, contacting the site that is using our works?

I have found many of my poems especially haiku used by others - I simply mail them and ask them to credit me as the author - most are happy to do so saying they didn't know it was mine - one asked me to prove copyright - I simply directed them to poetry soup - they soon credited me as the author! I am delighted to see my work go to a wider audience - maybe the answer is to put your name on a poem - and if it is for a contest to add it to a poem AFTER a contest has been judged:-) hugs Jan xx

This is totally new territory for me. I have contacted DeviantArt--had to join it to do so. Also, contacted the newspaper in Jamaica and the blogger. I don't know where that will go, but I am pursuing it. I hope some others who have been doing this longer than you and I will contribute to this blog and give their opinions. Maybe Team Poetry Soup will chime in...what do you think, TP.
Date: 8/29/2015 1:31:00 PM
