Andrea Dietrich
(Click for Poet Info...)

Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held).  A song was created from her lyrics "Honeymoon Serenade" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDWxc4cpHDc) and two movies have been made featuring the poetry of Andrea Dietrich: "A Tale of Fire and Ice" (a 4 min. Z-Film Fest Project, 2014) and the full length movie "Six Days of Sistine" in which 20 poems of Ms. Dietrichs serve as the thoughts of two characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Elarica Johnson (directed by Richard J. Perry, 2019) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7710360/

Forget-Me-Not Day! (and remember the Veterans too!)

Blog Posted by Andrea Dietrich: 11/10/2010 6:37:00 AM
I missed the holiday for yesterday, but in case you are curious, it was called Chaos Never Dies Day, and I think there is no need to set it apart. It never ever dies and I often feel like I'm "celebrating" it every single day of my life!

Tomorrow, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day , and I notice some poets have been posting poetry to remember the veterans. So please keep that one in your mind! Veteran Day was originally named Armistice Day for the ending of WWI on 11/11 and  precisely at the TIME of 11:11. What an amazing thing. That is why work is stopped at 11:11 on that day for a moment of silence. However, I assume this tradition is only happening in government jobs. I can't recall ever being at a job that stopped for a moment of silence on this day and at this hour.

Today there are two holidays The first one is USMC Day. The United States Marine Corps (though known by a slightly different name in the past) was born this day in the year 1775 during the Revolutionary War. My son Jeremy served in the Marines. I am very proud of him and all that he has accomplished in his life. Thanks to the Marines, he was able to get his four-year college education when he came home. The law school, however, is another story; he is going to be paying for his law degree for a long time to come!

The OTHER holiday for today is called Forget-Me-Not Day. It is a time that you can remember the living, particularly someone you love that you have not touched base with in a while. Gosh, that could be a lot of people for me. I  have many relatives that I commuicate with only at Christmas time. Maybe you could look in your Email lists and find people to whom you've not sent any notes in a long while. Can you think of someone special whom you have not contacted in a long time? Today is the day. Let them know they are in your thoughts!!! So who comes to your mind?

Frank,is it that swahili hip hop video with a red sports car? It's very annoying, Even now I can hear the indechiperable words the guy is singing(?)since I don't know how to stop the youtube play before it is finished. hahaha. Good grief! That is a local group? I think they would do very well since that is what the young folks seem to like these days!

So much to celebrate when it comes to the courage of our military, Andrea. Perhaps it is time to reach out and contact one of them in honor of Armistice Day, USMC Day AND Forget-Me-Not Day. Love, Carolyn
