Commenting

It is very important to us poets that we support each other. In this endeavor, it is very important that we not only comment on the top poets, but those in--for example--the Friend Builder.

If we all took the time to read 10 NEW poets each day, not just our friends, think about how much more enriching our experience can be, and that of the recipient. It's not ok just to hang in a clique.

Move out of your comfort zone and remember, it's not how many poems we've had read, I know we all would appreciate more comments on our poetry.

After all, isn't that why we write? Not just to park a piece and watch the numbers climb, but to receive comments and criticsm--both good and bad is fine by me--to know our work has touched the reader. Just my thoughts.

This week I got so behind that perhaps some of those who commented to me scrolled off my Inbox list of commenters. My apologies if you were one of them. I really do try to comment always back. hope you will find folks who understand good poetry club etiqutte. I know people struggle with members not returning comments to them. One of my favorite ways to see new people is to visit winner lists and comment to folks there that I never heard of before!

I am super busy and still manage to stay high as a community builder. If I work and do many other things, I do not understand why people who are retired, for example, don't have time to do comments. I admit, though, I do not use the lists of Soup. It's all I can do to keep up with the poets who have read my poetry. When I first came here , I commented to one hundred poets in two days. Only about 20 commented back. I was a newbie and I just kept commenting to the ones who returned the favor. If newbies want to be read, they have to put in the work. Then they will build a following. I do not understand why so many poets do not get this. You are nice to comment through friend builder!

Hello Rob. Yes commenting can be upbuilding. Visiting the New Poems list is one way to catch some we may otherwise miss. I recommend starting from the bottom as the list only holds 100 poems; so those at the bottom will soon be removed. Stay safe :)

Rob, great blog and advice, time is a factor sometimes for me anyways, I must choose- do I write or comment but I am going to figure out a way to do both in this new year, thank you for the reminder _Constance

I agree commenting takes time. However, it's a worthwhile endeavor, except when folks don't return the favor. I'm simply blocking those whom I've reviewed multiple times and do not respond. Also, it is exhausting going into all my reviews just to see if a poet has responded. It would be nice to have an additional link to responses of our comments. Lastly, it is meaningless to me to see a poem has been read 64 times, yet has no comments. I mean, what's the point?
