Craig introduced me to this tragic but famous Anglo/American poet just these past few days, resulting in me becoming acquainted with both John's fame due to his world renown WW2 poem ' High Flight' and quoted so often by so many since he penned it at just 19 in 1941.just before his early death in a flying accident.
In the book about this young man 'The Pilot Poet' was published for the first time a chapbook of his poetry that John arranged ( the age of 17 ) to be printed but not published whilst at Avon school ,USA.
In his foreword thereto John says this about his poetry therein...
.all I ask is that they be read not too critically, and that they be permitted by the Muses to give some pleasure to my contemporaries....
Does this not sum up what we are about here in this PS workshop of ours?
(I certainly get much pleasure from reading the poetry of all the poets here who so faithfully support my any form/ any theme contest)
