Haiku / Senryu Titles

Dear All,  From what I understand (have learned), a traditional Haiku or Senryu does not have a title.  Poetry Soup will not allow you to post a poem without a title.  I've decided to just use the first line as my title to get around this.  Does anyone have a thought about this?  Best wishes,  JP

Good poetry research JP, and you are asking for it to be done in one of the accepted ways. To use a title in haiku is considered a cheat because the title adds a lot to the meaning of the verse. haiku is meant to be open-ended so the reader can write/compose/imagine what came before the moment and what comes after the moment. Most of the haiku is meant to be in the readers mind. GOOD JOB!

Yes, first line or even last line works. However, the last line is often a twist, so using last line gives that away! I have seen others use titles like Haiku number 4, etc. I am too lazy to go back in my poetry and label everything by numbers and anyway, they would not even be truly numbered in the correct order of when I wrote them. Sometimes using a short title adds a new dimension to the haiku itself. Though it is frowned upon, I rather enjoy giving this added dimension to my Ku!!
