New contest, The Devil made me do it!

Okay I'm sponsoring my first contest on the Soup and am really excited to read the resulting poems! Thank you in advance for supporting me with this endeavor!

And here are the details:

What to Submit?

1 original, poem on the theme of The Devil made me do it!

Let's have fun finding out what trouble gets stirred up by our pitchfork wielding adversary!

Remember, the Devil is a powerful figure with unlimited stratagems. The possibilities are endless here. How does he appear? What does he sound like? How specifically are you enticed? He is a master at his game so use effective imagery to help me truly understand why resistance is futile! Make me use my senses!

And here is a short poem I wrote for another contest about auld Clootie himself:

Address to the Devil

Auld Clootie of corruption fame,

how smooth your fork-ed hiss,

deceiving hearts and tickling ears

with your sweet, seductive kiss.

Oh, master of enticement

how fragrant is your breath,

while whispering temptation,

condemning souls to death.

And in this wicked world we're

bound by your irreverent reign

'til heaven strikes a fatal blow

to your unhallowed name.

Rules:

Keep it clean

Have fun

Feel free to replace the Devil with any other religious, mythological, or legendary figure of equal malintent.

*Poems must be in the form of a sonnet, just for giggles!

*Poems do NOT need to include the phrase "The Devil made me do it".

Spelling counts and by all means be creative with your vocabulary!

Great idea for a contest Thvia, and that is a beautiful photo you posted. I don't really believe in the "devil." It's too easy to lay the blame on another entity when the evil ways come from within a person's own carnal mind. However, I'll see if I can come up with something if the contest is still open when I reach NJ. Been traveling hundreds of miles each day. The "devil" could be the truck driver I encountered who makes the road unsafe for other motorists. I'll give it some thought. Congrats on holding your first contest! Sonnets are a great form -- allowing for different rhyme schemes, but always having couplets as the last 2 of the 14 lines. I wish Brian Strand was still active here -- he was a sonnet master!
