My Website:

Poet | Regina McIntosh (reginariddle.wixsite.com)

I’m Regina Shepherd (maiden name), Hill, Riddle - McIntosh… but I’ve only had things published under my names – Regina Hill and Regina Riddle and Regina McIntosh, who I am currently. I enjoy writing and hope to write something that shares my heartfelt joy in the Lord. I love God above all else and want to please Him above all else. I hope to write more Christian original poetry and have other ideas which include the possibility of writing something surrounding my home, the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina and all the Appalachia that I love.

I have poems published here on Poetry Soup and many of my poems have been published by Blue Mountain Arts (SPS Studios) in their calendars, anthologies and greeting cards. I’ve also had poems published in the magazines True Love and True Romance (if I’m recalling the names right). I’ve had a few essays and articles published (mostly by regional magazines like Our State) and – I haven’t tried to have too many things published for a few years. I do hope to submit some of my writings as time allows.

Most recently, my poems appear each month in Blue Ridge Christian News, a local paper for Christians and I am currently working on devotionals that will possibly be  published in early 2024.

I work full time at the Altec, a factory that makes truck beds for different companys - tree trimming companies, electric companies, etc...  so write what I can during my spare time. I believe God inspires me to write and I hope to, as I’ve already said, write things that provide praise and worship for Him. Jesus is my everything. After Jesus, I love my husband, Morris, my Mama, and all my family, my dogs, nature, reading (especially the Bible and words by some great preachers like Spurgeon and A.W. Tozer) writing and currently love canning home grown veggies. I also enjoy cooking, camping and my favorite holiday is, naturally, Christmas!!!

I hope to learn more about all of you wonderful writers who shine a light here at Poetry Soup. Just shoot me a email if you would like to know anything I can offer.

Fact or Fiction

Blog Posted by Regina Mcintosh: 1/29/2025 3:57:00 AM

Everything a person writes isn’t necessarily something they have experienced. I recently wrote a poem that I intended to discourage abortion and someone got the idea that I’d had an abortion – nothing could be farther from the truth. I am so against abortion and I can’t imagine the guilt someone might feel if they had an abortion. At any rate, I haven’t actually had the experience of having an abortion, yet I wrote a poem about abortion. If everything we write is something that comes from our own experiences – that might mean that writers like Steven King are truly in serious trouble. No. Not everything I write is about me! I write some things about me, but the abortion poem was definitely not about me! I hope that we can read each others poetry without assuming that every line written is biographical! God bless you all and Have a Happy February.

That's a good idea to add a disclaimer. I write a lot of fictional poems in first person that people sometimes think are real. It's confusing, because a lot of my poems are mostly fictional, but contain pieces that are sometimes literally, and sometimes, figuratively factual - and sometimes, nothing is factual.

Absolutely. I'll remember that from now on.

i have the opposite problem - people tend to assume my poems are fictional when 90% are factual

Probably why I enjoy your writing so much.

A common error but then we do tend to write about how life touches us intimately, moment to moment, so you can just add fictional or a similar word as a footnote somewhere.

I got in the habit of adding Persona or Satire at the top of a poem that might otherwise be incorrectly identified. It mostly helps, but I still get the odd one that doesn't get it, especially if it is on a sensitive subject.

Good idea. Thank you.

Like Tom says below, if it is something really outside your realm of experience, disclaimers at the top are a great way to avoid having people think it's about you. Sometimes I will write from male perspective and wonder if people who don't know me are thinking I am actually a man. haha. Yeah, maybe only 10 percent of what I write is truly about myself personally, but most of what I write is general truth for all.

I added the disclaimer. Thank you tons. I hadn't thought of doing that.

I noticed Silent One will sometimes add a disclaimer to his so that his readers won't be confused. Nevertheless, some still are, assuming it's bio based. I get it too sometimes I think we all do. I wouldn't be too concerned

Thank you. I added a note at the top of the poem now. I hope readers will see and realize that it isn't actually me I'm talking about. You're right. I shouldn't let it bother me. It's just that I really hate abortion!
