Some Prophecies Came to Pass - L MILTON HANKINS's Blog

(Show Details...)
Bloggers Photo

I was born and raised in the south-central West Virginia. I graduated from Nuttall High School, Lookout, WV in 1959 and went off to Berea College, Berea, Kentucky. After my freshman year, I enlisted in the United States Air Force, where I served for four years in the beautiful state of Hawaii. While there, I attended Jackson College and the University of Hawaii.

Upon my return home to West Virginia, I married and had two exceptional children, Emily and Adam Hankins. Unfortunately, that marriage ended in divorce after about seven years. During those same years, I graduated from the University of Charleston, Charleston, WV, receiving my baccalaureate degree in history.

About this time, I published my first chapbook of poetry, The Lady in the Pink Hat. It was published by Candor Press in 1969.

Between 1968 and 1981, my poems appeared in Christian Century, Writer, The Poet, Cameo, Grit, Quintessence, Author/Poet, Tangent, The American Poet, Prairie Poets, The Baptist Leader, and Parnassus. My poems appeared in the following anthologies:  Major Poets Anthology #6, Prairie Press Books, The Soul and the Singer Anthology, Young Publications, Field of Daisies, Nina Brewer Henry, Editor, Prairie Press Books, and Yearbook of Modern Poetry, 1981, Young Publications,

Articles and short stories appeared in Hoosier Challenger, Housewife/Writer's Forum, Capper's Weekly, Vegetarian Times, Writer's Digest, Equipping Youth, The West Virginia Hillbilly, The Mountain Laurel, Christian Education Today, Leadership, Christian Leadership, The Final Draft, Writer's World, A Better Life For You, Lifeglow, The Messenger, Collector's News and the Antique Reporter, Writer's Gazette Newsletter, Animal Press, The Central Virginian, Pocket Inspirations, The Preacher's Magazine, Chips Off the Writer's Block, Huckleberry, West Virginia--Then and Now, AIM Magazine, Appalachian Heritage, Fiction Forum, and i:The First Person.

(More recently) I obtained my master's and doctoral degees in Theology at Trinity Theological Seminary. I served churches in West Virginia, Ohio, and Virginia before retiring in 1997.  A compulsive writer, my poetry, articles, short stories, and theological writings have appeared in numerous national journals and periodicals, mentioned previously, and including Biblical Illustrator and the renowned Pulpit Digest. In 1992-1993 I was selected for Who's Who in Religion. I was also elected to the international poetry society, Y Escambi Internationale. One of my poems was read into the Congressional Journal of the United States. I am also a member of Pi Gamma Mu, an honorary sociological fraternity.

(Even More Recently) I published a book of Appalachian short stories, Ashes on the Snow, and, A Sensible Theology for Thinking People (A retired Southern Baptist minister talks candidly about the Bible, Theology and Contemporary Concerns). For about eight years I wrote a weekly column for the Huntington, WV Herald-Dispatch.

In the past couple of years, some of my poems have appeared in PS: It's Poetry, Arczis Technologies, Inc., Nursery Rhymes & Stories, Eve Roper, Compiler, Kindle Direct Publishing, and PS: It's Still Poetry, Volume II, Arczis Technologies, Inc.

My "A Sensible Look at Genesis" and my autobiograph "A Pedestal in the Closet" remain unpublished. I have edited three doctoral theses and continue to edit poetry chapbooks and short stories for family and friends.

I have been interviewed on both radio and television. For two years (2016-2017) I published and edited my own website, "A Columnist With a View."

My wife Deborah and I moved to Catlettsburg, Kentucky to operate The Presidents' House Bed and Breakfast, where we remained until we retired a second time and moved to Ashland, Kentucky. My wife Deborah of 35 years died November 22, 2018. In the years since her death, I have been very active on the Poetry Soup and All Poetry websites.

I continue my work as a freelance writer and editor. I am available for editing projects by contacting me at:

Some Prophecies Came to Pass

Blog Posted:4/10/2022 7:31:00 PM

Many of you will recall back in late December 2020 or early January 2021 I wrote two poems with prophecies. They were satirical, tongue-in-cheek when they were written, but surprisingly some of them have come true!  A few are partially true, just off a little bit!  I thought I would re-list the prophecies here for your enjoyment:

Many Republicans will hurriedly leave the Grand Ol’ Party.  Democrats and Independents will become hale and hearty.

Presidential hopefuls headquartered throughout will be greatly hindered by Donald’s unruly mouth.

A bestselling “tell-all” book revealing a foreign policy blunder will severely diminish the U. S. State Department’s thunder.

A United States Senator who is exposed for his many affairs will be pardoned after shedding copious tears...and prayers. [Actually, a U. S. Congressman, I believe. is facing these kinds of charges.]

Future Americans will look elsewhere for political leaders away from Washington’s experienced grifters and cheaters.

A retired elderly actor will star in a major blockbuster critics will pan it as a complete waste of time – lackluster!

A best-selling author whose bodice-busters were widely read will be discovered in a well-known hotel room cold and dead.  She died, but I don't believe she was found in a hotel room.

Everyone aboard a transcontinental flight to Europe will be okay when a brave and competent pilot returns his plane to J. F. K.  This happened, but it's fairly routine procedure, I think.

A shocking revelation in a high profile sex-trafficking case will make it hard for a well-known, public figure to save face.

Two of the world’s wealthiest men will embark on a race to see which of the two will be the first company in space.

I AM CERTAINLY NO PROPHET!  I hope enjoyed this up-date.

Cordially, Milt

We see often more than what the intellect tells us! We are not just the brain that sits in a dark box called the skull- that perceives the world through the 5 senses! Our whole body has intellect bound in every genetic code! I saw the tsunami 2 days before it happened and many such events in my life - have convinced me that all creatures have perception than what is understood by science! And I am a Doctor with 35 years of active clinical and academic practice!

Thank you so much, Krish, for your insightful and thoughtful comment. No question about it "all creatures have [more] perception than what is understood by science!" I wholeheartedly concur.

There is so much in our brain that we do not understand. But, we do experience these things, and there can be no denial. How? I do not know.

sometimes I think about someone and the telephone rings and it is them... I find that weird or I think something will happen in my life and it does and that is just plain strange
Date: 4/11/2022 4:24:00 PM
Nope, but, truthfully, I do think I'm a tish clairvoyant. I have seen things before they happened on rare occasions. And, occasionally, quite striking!
Date: 4/11/2022 2:27:00 PM
Actually here in Utah anyway, a number of liberals have changed over to Republican party. I was reading that in Newsbreak the other day. I remain "Independent" Both parties are corrupt.

I take neither political party because both parties have good ideas and intentions, but the corruption. There has never been an honest government since this nation founded itself.

I once was a Democrat for a while. But many things changed my mind. I still do espouse some of their ideals. Both parties have their good and their bad
Date: 4/11/2022 2:33:00 PM
I'm in favor of throwing all of them out...en masse! Start all over from scratch. Term limits! If a person cannot show they have kept their campaign promises, they should not be allowed to run for reelection. When a person does not produce on the job, they get fired. Too many politicians are running on name recognition and war chests! Out with the whole lot of them!!! And, I will always be a liberal, as I believe almost all Americans are when it comes right down to it. I need to write more about why I am a liberal and what being a liberal means. You rock, Andrea!
Date: 4/11/2022 2:25:00 PM
I can't even discuss MY prophecies that came true. Media suppresses them; fact checkers are biased against people like me who support doctors, scientists and reporters with opposing views to the narrative; and many people choose to believe things that I think are hogwash. Anyway, at least for now we still have freedom to speak (to an extent anyway) Let's enjoy it while we can.

Yes, indeed, Andrea. I have enormous respect for "the loyal opposition," as it were. Hearing all the sides to every situation is extremely important, and knowing not all people feel, believe, or relate the same. We all have different experiences and backgrounds. So never give up speaking your truth! It is so important.

I am with you all the way.. I can say, I am tired of the put downs from a person that has already been expose to lies, and people are still wearing horse blinders.

OMG. Too many on the mark. How about ge thing back into that satirical trance to tell us if the world will survive Putin? I Stand with Ukraine! Ad will the U.S. relearn the lessons of Liberty from the Ukrainians?

Nah, like I said, I'm not a prophet, but sometimes I think we can see what is ahead. Oh, I have no doubt Putin will fall and Ukraine will recover. Unfortunately, the U.S. must go through more trials before we appreciate the meaning of freedom!
