My biography will be very limited for now.   Here , I can express myself in poetic form but in real life I much rather prefer to be far less forward  I am a 60 year old American citizen , born and raised in the glorious South! A heritage that I am very proud of and thank God for as it is a blessing indeed ~

Currently married to my beautiful young wife(Riza) a lovely filipina  lady and we have a fantastic 7 year old son, Justin ~

I have truly lived a very wild life as a younger man but now find myself finally very happily settled down for the duration of my life~

I decided to rest here and express myself with hopes that it may in some way help others, for I see here a very diverse  and fine gathering of poets, artists, and caring folks~

Quickly finding friends here that amaze me with such great talent~~

I invite any and all to comment on my writes and send me soup mail to discuss

whatever seems important to them ~

Blog- An experiment in attempting to stir my muse this morning...

Beautifully done Robert, I love the take on Poe's piece. A great blog, I'd always heard that Poe did drugs, but we've learned so much more about him since. I listened to a show a few nights back with an expert on him. He was a man of substance and wisdom, but it's not what we normally hear about. Well done, a great blog my friend.

Even worse the defamed his reputation and tried their best to destroy his poetic legacy! A legacy that is a true treasure and a most magnificent gift to the world! God bless..

Thank you my friend. Poe was vilified by a few that hated him and his genius. They did so mainly after his death -when he could not defend himself- a mark of true craven cowards. Even now many of their hateful lies are believed. More is coming out on these culprits and why they so wickedly defamed a dead man. God bless...

I discovered the magnificent genius of Poe back in 4th grade, in 1964. We were told to write a book report about any famous author we chose-our choice. Our library had a poetry section. First book I found was a book on Poe's poetry. And thus by reading that wonderful poet, truly great inspiration came and I found my love of and for poetry, its many often magnificent authors and the love, light, beauty, knowledge, inspiration, messages, freedom of expression, heart and soul revelations that it imparts to its readers-- and as well- all that it gifts to those that write it.. God bless...

Thank you my friend. It was born because my son and I were discussing the possibility of his becoming a writer and he challenged me to show him quickly by writing a poem. As I had mentioned how reading great poets inspires other poets to write-- myself included. Thus he dared me to write(to show)- and I did- using Poe's poem, "To The River" as my inspiration... God bless...

Done exquisitely well, Robert, and your precocious 13-year-old, Justin, shares your joy truly by stoking your fire. 'Tis a wondrous gift of your inner expressions my friend, may your family stay well and safe, Aloha! William

Thank you my friend. You are so right, my son did ever so brighten my day and inspire me to compose! A much needed gift and one truly appreciated. His newfound interests in writing was truly a wonderful gift and massively swelled my heart.. God bless....

Thank you my friend. That I will do. I also will let him choose. And never force him to pursue a career Idecided for him.. Iam a firm believer in allowing a child to mature and then choose thier own path in this world. As I did with my beautiful daughter. Such seems to me to be giving the freedom one deserves. God bless..

A magnificent tribute to Mr. Poe, dear Robert. Poe is one of my favorite poets and I, myself, have written a few tributes to him. The last one entitled 'The Poet'. Thank you for sharing your poetic brilliance.

Thank you my friend. I read your wonderful poem you mentioned. And made my second comment on it , as I had previously commented on it. It is without any doubt a magnificent tribute poem to Poe! Truly enjoyed it this fine morn.. God bless...

That is great that your son has an interest in poetry, especially at his age. Children are certainly God's gifts but so are good parents. I liked your tribute and it was nice to read something different from Poe.

Thank you my friend, we are blessed by having our children. They are certainly gifts given. My life would be so much less without them. Justin showing renewed interest in poetry is a godsend to me. I do not push him, I let him decide for himself. He loves to write and if its poetry he focuses on--to me that is all the better. God bless....

Your thoughts wrap around this moment in Poe's poem- my dear friend, just the way I knew it would. You are tender light. This is beautiful in every way- because you wrote it from your heart. ~ Brandy

Thank you my friend. I am attempting to hold to my vow recently made and write poetry that is not of a dark nature. This came to be as a lesson given to my son after we were discussing the art of poetry. As he is yet again showing renewed interests in poetry. I now plan on letting him read this blog tomorrow and see what wonderful poets we have at this site. Encouragement for him to become a writer-- if that is his choice (and I desperately hope that it will be).. God bless...

Thank you my friend. When composing I had my beloved family, life , love, beauty, Nature's gifts, and treasures of poetry firmly and gleefully in mind. Poe's verses and the river conjured up scenes of my youth , fishing, summer break from school and picnics on the riverbanks. Life as lived and life yet to be lived! God bless..

Just saw the comment that you wrote below about what your son said. It's nicer than what my son ever says to ME, Robert. My son is really rude!!! anyway, I think you matched up the tone and classic feeling of Poe's writing in your own poem as tribute. I am not a huge fan of old style English, so maybe that is the thing your son was referring to. However, the imagery , such as the Cheshire cat-eye glow and the bink of galactic voice, etc. Those were brilliant, Robert!

Thank you my friend. I am sorry to hear that your son is rude. Mine in saying that was yanking my chain so to speak. At least that is what he told me later. Yet I suspect, there was still honesty in his opinion. And yes, he is no fan of " old style English". Has told me so before. I can only splash in ink what my muse and my soul send to the heart to relay. God bless..

Jeanne my friend, thank you for that comment..I had no expectations to enter the poetic realm of a master poet such as Edgar Allan Poe. I just wanted to show my son that poetry can uplift, inspire and be a blessed treasure. I am very, very proud of his honesty and that later he gave it an --"ok'...After all, it was a very quick flash of poetic racing and an attempt to show him poetry is not boring , and can be accomplished quickly when one is inspired by reading other poets for inspiration. As I do great poets here every day... God bless....

Thank you my friend. I wish both poems were mine. The first poem, the one that is truly magnificent was written by Edgar Allan Poe. I can only lay claim to the second poem, " O'Bright Star, Thy Bright Gleamings True Hearts See". A new rendering inspired by the beauty and brilliance of the first treasure that was given the world by Poe.. God bless...

By the way, my son rated the poem as -"ok"- but not great. He then said, "Dad you may do better next time"! I thanked him for his honesty. Then quickly I eased off into the bathroom to hide my falling tears.... He definitely shows great promise as a poetry critic, methinks...

His comment on Poe's poem was it was truly great but not as good as Poe's dark poetry. That statement surprised me, as he has told me often he prefers reading my "other poetry" over that of reading my dark poetry. I guess it is just a case of what apple one prefers. Be it sour and tangy or else sweet and juicy., eh? God bless....

Your comment gave me an idea. I am going to let him read this blog tomorrow and see the caliber of the very fine poets we have here at the Soup! He has already read many poems here and many of you he has already told me he admires. He has a keen mind and loves reading. I hope to encourage that and it to be to his benefit in life, God bless.

I replied in a long post . it just vanished..ughhhh... I am very proud of his honesty. He later admitted it was as he put it -"ok".. And even gave me credit for being able to do better next time! After all, it was a quickly dashed out piece and one using old style English language. I only engaged in composing to stir his renewed interest in writing, in poetry. I hope if he chooses he will become a write--especially so if its poetry he writes. God bless...

Oh my...what did he think of Poe's poem? at least he didn't say it sucks, lol. Shed no tears my poet friend, your poem did honor to the style and feel of said Poe poem...a fine tribute in your, ahem, first attempt, that will do better next time...oh, your son is precious.

Thank you my friend. I have long ago found this world to be ever growing darker and more hideous to any that prefer peace, prosperity, kindness, empathy, love and true fellowship with others. That which inspiring, uplifting love's blessings, and message driven poetry represents so very well. God bless...

Twenty six minuets well spent! Robert your words come to us as from a wise sage with the voice of an elder and a heart of a child. You tell a story with such freshness and reality that it soon attaches itself to our reality and we take partial ownership of the emotions your words evoke. Well done my friend!

Quite a thinker about our art Robert, back in 2010,I labelled a form eap ... eap-BEAUTY/ A poet see beauty:/ in the field of corn/ in the mist-filled dawn/ in the face care-worn/ in the image still-born/... eap(eep) is a list cinquain where L1 is a statement followed by rhymed L2-5 that amplify the statement with words introduced by 'in the' by the ' of the'.I labelled this an eap after Edgar Allan Poe as it is inspired by sililoqy in this format in the conclusion of his essay Poetic Principle.

Thank you Brian. Now that is indeed a top class poem my friend. And the form you created very, very interesting. Is the poem here listed on your homepage? I am intrigued by this new form/idea you have from gifted 2010... And will check out his essay Poetic Principle.. Thanks... God bless...

This idea came from my 13 year old son asking me this morn, how long does it take to write a poem? After he and I had an in-depth discussion about Edgar Allan Poe, and his dark poetry. I deliberately chose a Poe poem that was not--dark. As it is easier for me to write dark verses. And I have quite recently vowed to attempt to write positive and uplifting verses of light, love, truth, inspiration and words that serve a positive purpose.

Comments welcomed. Note that Poe's poem is truly a masterpiece- as is ALL of his poetry, imho! However, I make no such claim about my far, far inferior efforts. But I do claim sincere admiration of his magnificent works and his absolute, extraordinary poetic genius. RJL
