My biography will be very limited for now.   Here , I can express myself in poetic form but in real life I much rather prefer to be far less forward  I am a 60 year old American citizen , born and raised in the glorious South! A heritage that I am very proud of and thank God for as it is a blessing indeed ~

Currently married to my beautiful young wife(Riza) a lovely filipina  lady and we have a fantastic 7 year old son, Justin ~

I have truly lived a very wild life as a younger man but now find myself finally very happily settled down for the duration of my life~

I decided to rest here and express myself with hopes that it may in some way help others, for I see here a very diverse  and fine gathering of poets, artists, and caring folks~

Quickly finding friends here that amaze me with such great talent~~

I invite any and all to comment on my writes and send me soup mail to discuss

whatever seems important to them ~

"On earth, we are in midst of that eternal fight." We are definitely in the midst of something! I think darkness and light go hand-in-hand; darkness (not to be confused with evil) the light shines through the darkness. Contrast allows for growth, enlightenment we must be able to see our way through the darkness, but it's the darkness that allows us to find the light. We must also consider, that even God gives us a choice; without the enduring the darkness, would we as eagerly welcome the light? The human ego is very blinding.

Thank you friend. As we both know admitting, seeing and facing the darkness gives us perspective for the wonderment and salvation that is only bright by Light. Choice we have and human weakness we must live with. Ego and greed blind and bind so many. Only Light gifts truth, blessings, and salvation. God bless....

This is something I ponder on a daily basis - not only the victory of light over the darkness, but the essential nature of the dark, and the meaning and import given to both - not just the dichotomy, but the weight and necessity. Some very good reference here, Robert, and a lot of work and thoughtfulness. I enjoyed this very much on Easter morning. Thank you for sharing about something dear to my heart, and some favorite passages and references. Blessings and Happy Easter!

Pray a well lit path be your choice Let dawn sing in its brightest voice Its rays cast away black of night Allowing Truth to shine in Light Basking in that eternal glow Blind heart and soul shall then both grow. RJL

The given links and references are just a scratch on the surface of that which Poetry's vast treasure chambers hold. Poetry's rich history is perhaps being denied and ignored by far too many modern poets, in my opinion. As its lessons taught, its rich treasures stored are so important on ones learning and improving in their own poetic journey. Yet as poets we all must walk the path of our own making. Blessings and Happy Easter to you and yours my friend !

Thank you my friend. To see only Light and refuse that Dark exists is indeed a great aid to the Dark. As Dark so oft masquerades as Light. To any blinded such deception comes and leads them further into the unholy darkness. I wrote this poem during a very dark period in my young life and have added to it now forty years later. A further point made is that great and famous poets wrote and are truly celebrated for writing about Morality, Decency, Civility, Kindness, Love, Honor and FAITH.. God bless...

You again amaze us Robert with this informative wealth of information. Your opening verse is very appropriate for these dark times we find ourselves in. Tom

Thank you my friend. So true, these dark times are here and they come in like a marauding horde to destroy life, health, family, peace , sanity, comfort, joy, happiness, unity, freedom and so very much more! As others sacrifice to save as many as can be saved-- we poets can write ,hope and pray , mercy comes soon! Tho' in the mean time we can stop to ponder the many treasures that we have and why life is so very precious.. God bless....

Thank you my friend, your offering is a golden truth. Darkness itself can not keep out the Light. Each person has free will and thus either sees and accepts or else sees and denies. Compulsion is not a part of the Light. To seek to walk in the Light is the path to tread. To live with the true and the sincere desire for peace and harmony the right way. The Dark favors Chaos, Destruction, Deception and Harm, Sorrow, Misery and Death.... God bless.....

Robert, you can't help but inspire anyone who takes the time really read your work. In this day of so called modern poetry, there is little space for the truth of the understandable gift the classic style affords. I applaud your expertise and hard work to save us from ourselves.

Thank you my friend. I am glad you enjoyed the poem and understand that a poet should give to others. Should write heart's great truth, and hope it helps others in life. Having been so helped in life by so many past famous poets and yes even now here by so many great poets - I see the Truth-' that Poetry is the greatest Art and its immense and beautiful benefits to mankind simply well beyond measure! God bless...

“On earth, we are in midst of that eternal fight.” Exactly. Every day, we are fighting, most of the time it is subtle. Choices can seem innocent or trivial, but few are. Have to put and keep Christ first. Belief is just the beginning, have to get to know him, otherwise Matthew 7:23 “And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Our enemy is very clever and very powerful. We must be extremely careful. Excellent poem and blog my friend. God Bless You.

Thank you my friend. Your words ring true. Mankind faces a new and very severe test. One that includes great harm and even death. Such that has came before and was faced by our ancestors. What we do now, how we face it is the essence of that harsh test my friend. First step is to acknowledge that ramping up and promoting fear is also a great enemy of recovery. Fear oft leads to hasty costly,, even deadly decisions. A calm rational approach is necessary to battle this darkness that has come from the great abyss. God bless...

Robert, again, I applaud you for your tenacity in research and the mounds of information that you so freely offer. I only recognize a few of the individuals you mention in your blog but the ones I do recognize have all been instrumental in putting Christ in the forefront. If the world would only pay attention. I admire you and your hard work and determination to do just as these devout men have done. God will Bless you for the effort you are making although some will do nothing but criticize. The criticism is nothing compared to God's Blessings. So, my friend, continue to make 'your mark' in the history of the world and in Christendom.

Thank you my friend. I wrote that poem and presented this blog to offer the view that it costs nothing to be kind, to be truthful and decent. To acknowledge that Light is the way. That Darkness is the true enemy. Noting that many famous, truly great poets wrote on this great Truth. Some even dedicated their entire life and their writings on it! Poetry does and should include such presentations of morality, decency and kindness- such words of Light. This current Darkness in the world shall not win, but it will cause great sacrifice and reveal many that live only for themselves and their own selfish desires. God bless..

Thank you my friend. I write to give to others and hope they are helped by inked words from an old poet's heart sent. I strongly believe that studying the famous poets of old- "the golden poets" - is a great help in ones own poetry. The fact that so many of them wrote of faith, morality, and maintaining a decent and honorable way of life points to the reality that Light defeats Darkness and for peace in life one must face that Truth. God bless..

Hardy is for many ,easier to read as a poet than a novelist, perhaps because tv serialisation has transformed his lengthy scenic descriptions and allows concentration on the actual novel plots.

Thomas Hardy was a Victorian era poet/novelist. His poem titled the "The Voice" is my favorite. It has been a couple decades since I read his poems. Once long ago I could recite his poem , The Voice from memory.. Age now so greatly interferes with that recall ability.

TS came to the fore for me Robert about a year+ or so ago,(some find him difficult) but I agree he iis the best example of modern open verse poet of his genre, especially when read aloud as youtube examples clearly show.

TS for me is another poetic genius-yet I can never hope to write in his style. He as a poet truly earned all the credit given him and very possibly much more... Alas! We each have our own style, and our own ideas on how to write, what to write and why it is important. Admiring other poets for their talent is to me just admitting/revealing truth in poetry and its magnificent gifts given unto the world....

Donne was a true poet in every sense of the word. His poetry has depth, human connection, heart, truth, empathy and much, much more! I have read almost all of his poems. A good study of his poetry is a indeed a most worthy endeavor....

One of my favorites, John Donne's-- A Hymn to God the Father Wilt thou forgive that sin where I begun, Which was my sin, though it were done before? Wilt thou forgive that sin, through which I run, And do run still, though still I do deplore? When thou hast done, thou hast not done, For I have more. Wilt thou forgive that sin which I have won Others to sin, and made my sin their door? Wilt thou forgive that sin which I did shun A year or two, but wallow’d in, a score? When thou hast done, thou hast not done, For I have more.

continued, I have a sin of fear, that when I have spun My last thread, I shall perish on the shore; But swear by thyself, that at my death thy Son Shall shine as he shines now, and heretofore; And, having done that, thou hast done; I fear no more.

Thank you my friend. My friend-- nothing wrong with- just writing- as heart and soul directs and inspires a true poet. One never goes wrong listening to that inspiration- to that inner voice-- that muse.. As your poetry reveals to be the truth.. God bless.

Henry Vaughan ,the poetic disciple of George Herbert, was another I was led to from interest in GH,and his famous first line from the World are perhaps the most poetically profound,of that genre..I saw Eternity the other night, Like a great ring of pure and endless light, All calm, as it was bright,..

Love his poem, A Wreath A wreathed garland of deserved praise, Of praise deserved, unto thee I give, I give to thee, who know'est all my ways, My crooked winding ways, wherein I live, Wherein I die, not live : for life is straight, Straight as a line, and ever tends to thee, To thee, who art more far above deceit, Then deceit seems above simplicity. Give me simplicity, that I may live, So live and like, that I may know thy ways, Know them and practice them : then shall I give For this poor wreath, give thee a crown of praise

Robert a decade ago I was fascinated by George Herbert as he (and I at the time) had a common interest in poetic form, and discovered at least 15 variations thereof that he created. My especial favourite was the 'emblem ' Church Wall combining both my poetic and art interests.

I love the poem by Herbert, titled "The Elixir ", Teach me, my God and King, In all things Thee to see, And what I do in anything To do it as for Thee. Not rudely, as a beast, To run into an action; But still to make Thee prepossest, A man that looks on glass, On it may stay his eye; Or if he pleaseth, through it pass, And then the heav'n espy. All may of Thee partake: Nothing can be so mean, Which with his tincture—"for Thy sake"— Will not grow bright and clean. Makes drudgery divine: Who sweeps a room as for Thy laws, Makes that and th' action fine. This is the famous stone That turneth all to gold; For that which God doth touch and own Cannot for less be told.
