TO STAY OR STRAY

Conon Doyle,the famous author of Sherlick Holmes mysteries,after completing a dozen tales felt he had completed all he could say about the character etc and needed to move to 'pastures greener' novelistically speaking.
We poets often exhaust the 'well ' of a particular form and inspiration and seek other forms to explore.
Have you found that to be the case in your poetic walk ...or did(have) you like Doyle returned to your first love poetically speaking?
