Writing poetry is generally seen by many as a solitary art, written by those cocooned in their ivory towers with their imaginations.
As one who came to our art form late in life two decades ago, the act of writing may require some solitude and remoteness, I have still felt completely in the 'middle' of everyday events.
I have been impacted by the great happenings (and the consequences thereof) like everyone in those two decades, for example ,those of 9/11, 5/7,Brexit vote, etc but perhaps unlike most folk, been stimulated to write poems thereon.
As my last blog showed I was also stimulated to write about 'great events' that I was impacted in in family and work life,in my earlier pre-poetdays,particular WWI + 2 ,, in particular and its consequences
Many things impact we poets, for we are a very particular type of artist who pick up our pens to record our thoughts and share them in places like this so regularly
Perhaps our dna has an enhanced imagination!
Just writing poetry makes us 'different' ,yet we are right in the middle, and our gift for words and liking thereof gives us unique opportunities and to express more eloquently than many other commentators .
Do you feel ' different'? Do you feel 'apart' in your pursuit of your artform?
How do you react to others, family etc who react with raise eyebrows when you say you are a poet? ?
Why do same poets seem to decline to be so described?
Many non literary folk say 'I have a book within me' (or words to that effect) but you never seem to hear those self same folk say'I have a poem within me ' !
None the less , once a poet, we press on,, because our muse so compels the poetic urge that will not be denied.
