Burlap and Satin Rewind

I’m awake by 6:00.
While stars shimmer
I jostle my husband
Who sleeps soundly
Upon dampened sheets.

Tom is burlap
While I am satin.
Wishing myself out
Of my cartoon pajamas
I struggle lifting his
Aged body from his bed.

My back aches
While I dress Tom
Thinking of those satin
Tahitian nights and
Playful lagoon floating
Over conch shells
With my handsome
Burlap man.

Slideshow memories
Of Satin and Burlap
Times stamped in my
Young 70-year old mind.

Oh, this moving poem deeply touched me. Your obvious devotion and the love that keeps your tired self in motion leap from each stanza in bittersweet jumps of ache, challenge and commitment. I will think of you, I know, this evening as I go about fixing dinner for the one I love and count our blessings. I'm so glad I found this. If you had a halo, there would be extra sparkles in it for all you do in the name of love. Poetry hugs ... CayCay
