Your Image Remains

Sweet faded sepia images
are all that remain of you.
A life snuffed out like a candle's flame
never reappearing into view.
An essence of love and laughter
hangs like a mist within the air.
Your voice like distant raindrop memories,
a ghostly tread upon the stair.
The softness of the summer breeze
like your smile, evokes those senses.
The kind that infiltrate your dreams
and break down your defenses.
Your spiritual heartbeat calls to me
in death you want me still.
To walk beside your darkened form,
to keep your dreams fulfilled.
But I must let your soul go free,
no longer may you stay.
Go on to eternity and sweet release,
it is better for you that way.
I will remember the years that come,
in all things that I do.
The love we shared, in all my life,
that this heart belonged to you.
