Forbidden Fruit

In the book of Genesis, God warns of the forbidden fruit
He said if you eat of this fruit you would surely die
Not a physical death, but that of the spiritual kind, which is worse
But we have all eaten of the forbidden fruit, even I gave it a try

That forbidden fruit, sweet to the taste, and soft to the touch
The fact that it's forbidden makes it that much more tempting
But when that serpent rears its ugly head, there's nothing you can do
For he knows just what to say and can be very convincing

Being tempted by the forbidden fruit can lead to much bigger sins
For there's no greater temptation than that of the flesh
Because at some point you have to apologize to the one you betrayed
I apologize to that person, the one who considered me a trusted friend

God says that all sins are forgiven all you have to do is repent
Well, I repent to you now, Lord, for I have betrayed my friend
I was not only tempted by, but ate of this forbidden fruit
By lying down with his wife, I can't believe how far it went

I have no reason for doing what I did, other than just being selfish
I should've been more of a friend when she started crying on my shoulder
Then suddenly, one thing led to another and something happened
I knew I was in trouble when she began to cry and asked me to hold her

I don't know if my friend could ever forgive me but I know God has
I just needed to get this off my chest hoping to release this weight
This is the ultimate betrayal anyone could commit against a friend
That fact that he's like a brother makes the pain that much more great

Your friendship is worth more than that of forbidden fruit
God has forgiven me and I pray he softens your heart to forgive me one day
I hate that I betrayed you for we've been boys for a long time
I'd hate to lose your friendship over this, which would the ultimate price to pay

Find it in your heart to forgive me my friend though I know it won't be easy
And your wife is a good woman so have any hard feelings towards her
She feels just as bad as I do she just needed some1 to talk to and we took it 2 far
I pray we can get past this and things can go back to the way they were
