Black Hole of Calcutta

An Indian beauty and nutter:
her eyelashes started to flutter,
her butt in the air
she laid it all bare,
revealing her hole of Calcutta...

Welcome to Poetry Soup. I welcome you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

strange choice for potd

Your unfortunate but deliberate choice of words saddens me, while some may see this as humour I find it distasteful and lacking in moral guidance, while humour is subjective, this particular type of "humour"in most walks of life is no longer deemed worthy or tolerated by those that have and show equal respect for one another. I am displeased by the offering of your words which is demeaning to most men and women alike regardless of race, but to remain silent would be to condone your words. There was a time and place for this humour it was called the 1970's.

While limericks often employ clever humour and playfulness, this one is not only in poor taste but crosses the line into vulgarity racism, and demening of women. It uses a pun referencing the 'Black Hole of Calcutta'—a deeply tragic historical event in which 146 people were locked in a small space out of which only 23 survived. People died in horrific conditions during British colonial rule in India. To reduce such a solemn moment in history to a crude joke feels not only distasteful, but also disrespectful. I understand and value that Poetry Soup embraces a variety of voices and poetic styles. However, I believe the platform also has a responsibility to uphold a basic standard of respect. There are many Indian people on this site that I am sure will quietly take offence and not say anything.
