The empty chair

The moon shone bright a little less tonight
My family too, seemed to hide from sight.
We were all in our rooms, pondering over what we once had known,
Because we were afraid to admit that we were all feeling alone.
The laughter that once echoed through the house,
Was now all contained in a bag and a blouse.
He wasnt here anymore to keep us together,
So now we'd just think of him when we see a white feather.
Dinner time; the room felt so empty,
We all sat across from eachother, we all missed him plenty.
There was the empty chair, waiting at the end of the table,
And although he knew it was very unstable,
He still sat on it through all those years,
While it soaked up all the laughter and the tears.
I think it probably misses him too,
Him and his chair, they were like a crew.
But the chair sat empty, with no partner,
Just waiting for him to come and eat his starter.
But hes not coming anymore,
No more waiting for him to walk through the door,
And no more waiting for him to update us on the football score.
And we already knew he wouldnt last forever,
But it would be nice to have a last few moments together.
But instead we sit as a family,
With the empty chair reminding us of the brutality.

Sad. Real. Time alone heals such wounds.
