Horrible

“I have told this story true before today,
In a different format in a different way.
A feeling of regret that I didn’t do more, I had inside.
Hung a plaque on the wall. This is where Horrible did reside.”
                                                                         The Poet

1.It seems everywhere I have lived, in every city,
There’s a character everyone knows and some pity.

2.In my town, a sight I pass every day is Horrible the cat.
One eyed Horrible, is ugly and most tell him to scat.

3. Fights have caused a limp, and he has just one ear.
He’s a sorrowful looking mess that many people fear.

4. Some feed him, and I have given him milk to drink.
I doubt anyone has gotten close, sure to be a stink.

5. He’s not the type of cat you’d love or want to own.
Poor old Horrible seemed happy to be all alone.

6. A newcomer to the area took a dislike to the cat.
Poured water over it, so it moved from where it sat.

7. In Summer this was fine, in Winter bitterly cold.
The cat was near death, I picked him up to hold.

8. That sweet cat nestled into my coat and gently purred.
That was a sound that from horrible no-one had heard.

9. I looked down at his unfortunate face and shed a tear.
Don’t worry mate I softly said, I will stay with you here.

10.He looked back and gave a soft meow and slipped away.
I missed him, but "glad he is gone" some would say.
