The Beginning of Christmas

I was sitting Thanksgiving day, with my belly overlapping
Cousin Dave was watching football, while Grandpa was a napping.
The kids were outside playing, trying to be good
Uncle Pete was moaning to himself, "Why did I eat so much food?"
Aunt Hazel was nearby standing, a listening and lurking
Amazed at how quickly consumed, was that twenty-five pound turkey
The girls were in the kitchen, sale bills a rattling and popping
Of what to be bought, tomorrow when they go shopping
As Grandma turned the pages, Aunt Betty gave a shout
"That is a sale, that we cannot miss out!"
Cousin Nancy turned the pages, quicker than a wink
And Aunt Sally said "I have a coupon for that, I think?
As for my sweet wife Rachel, tonight she will not sleep
She has to get up early, for the crowd she must beat
The Christmas shuffle has begun, the stores are full and glowing
Traffic, shoppers, the sign reads, "Santa Now Is Showing"
Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men, is the songs that we sing
I'm dreaming of a White Christmas, as Silver Bells ring
But Christmas is a whole lot more than presents and than toys
It's about the love of our father and a little baby boy
A gift given to us all, many years ago
Wise men, Shepherds, Children too, people young and old
To give us everlasting life, and freedom from our sins
So when we celebrate this season, let's remember how it begins.
