New Life

Thump. Thump. Thump. A glance at the heartbeat reveals,
Life exhaled a sigh of relief and assured certainty.
Imagine the pitter-patter of little feet as the sonogram goes bleep, bleep.
As fresh as linen hung in the morning sun, clean powdery scents fill the air.
Names are whispered in the wind: Kendall, Charlotte, Lucas, and Jacob.
Summer, autumn, winter, dawn to dusk
From sticky, hot summer days to the snug, swaddled, sleepless nights of a newborn,
Dozily feeding, gently rocking, and singing a lullaby,
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,
My baby, I love you to the moon and back.

A seedling sprouts. The promise of a delicate rose, a luscious berry, or a majestic evergreen,
As the year slips away, the sand slides down the hourglass,
with babbling brooks and comfort from a mocking jay,
At dawn, silence confounds us all,
And the sweet smile fades away, into a misty haze.

Friendly playdates pass away as a diagnosis is given, and every type of therapy is prescribed,
My heart aches but I am grateful they are there,
Lord, I cry out, I will do anything! I love my son!
Summer, autumn, winter, dawn to dusk,
Tireless summer days to cuddly, smiling Christmas nights.

H. Ha. Happy! The exhilaration of my heartbeat!
Life exhaled a sigh of relief and assured certainty.
Praising my Father for a miracle,
His love and hand over your life. He knows you by name. Every hair counted.
You are worth more than sparrows.

Misty, this is tender and heartwarming. I love how you start and end with heartbeats, first your baby's, then your own. Love the snippets of songs and Scriptures interjected into your lines, and the rise and fall and rise again of emotions. Praising God for his providence and healing hand. Welcome to Poetry Soup ~ John
