The Tower

The Tower

When I look at pictures I begin to cry
I ask questions to myself why oh why
Home should be safe it should be a haven
With walkways you are proud of and steady even paving
The night of the fire for many is raw
But equally it affected the rich and the poor.

I feel for those who lost love ones
And those whose life hadn't even begun
When I saw the pictures on TV
I thought this could have been a film for you or me
But it was real, it was sad people losing everything they had.

What I admired in the days after
Was the community who offered food, love and laughter.
Welcoming all cultures into their arms
These people didn't have airs and graces just showed charm
They donated and gave food, offered support and blankets to those almost nude.
These people were Christian Muslims white and black
We all saw the media and that was a fact
Britain in disaster all unite, because we love one another and have a lot of fight.

One year on it still seems like yesterday
Those poor people have to live with it in every way
It’s so sad and my heart bleeds, if I were rich
I would tend to their needs
I just hope and wish and pray
That they will get a home to cherish and love one day
Stability will come hopefully soon, and be freed from a life that's just a room

Love the people of Grenfell although you are unknown
Your loving caring ways has grown and grown
Forever in my heart and mind.

God bless Ruth
