What Is Life

The world looks so much different now,
Different without the fake happiness that is all a delusion
What is life? Here lies my conclusion.
In the beginning it was shiny and bright
now shades of darkness smother the night.
No candles flicker a trace of light
Here in silence sits the scars of which I write
Scars that span an entire life.
Whispers of struggle, sadness, and pain
Of all the words that were spoken, only bitterness remains
The voices and memories no longer let me sleep
Worries and nightmares that make me shiver and weep
What is life? The taking and breaking of all you hold dear
The destruction, death, disease, and fear
Life and it’s meaning is simple at best
You live and you die and suffer the rest.
What once sounded sweet now seems cruel and loud
What once meant everything, means nothing now
So here I wait for the end not knowing when or how.
