To the Young Woman In the Green Dress

Butterfly, from the corner of my eye, you drew my gaze,
Wings cloaked in seafoam, hair ablaze with amber and flame,
I: transfixed by your figure as you danced into my personal space.

I apologize for staring at you for so long it made the world shudder,
For inside my chest, heart and lungs stood still in forlorn wonder.
Long forgotten dreams of possibility quaked a memory of thunder.

Strike me down with a glance; I fall into a bottomless well of bleeding desperation,
Pausing for an eternity in my clawing at the impossible skyscraper ravine to reach out
With pleading eyes and starving gut in hopes your smile would provide sustenance.

Knowing how every time I thought to escape the confines of this bedlam mind,
I only found such devoted curiosity a burning magma barbecue of my psyche every time,
An opportunity to share this faintest of glimmers that you may truly see me fry.

Most sacred moth, please let my supernova gaze draw you near;
I promise this lighthouse torch will never flicker nor blink away tears,
For every droplet sublime will be kept as if a diamond: perfectly clear.

Fleeting passion, eternal imagination, obsessive complications,
Inside my mind we have loved countless lifetimes, generations,
But the moment has passed and you have vanished from my personal space.

I am left standing vapid and vacantly remorseful, useless
My eyes grasp desperately for the after-image ghost of you, without success…
The young woman in the green dress…
