Legacy
Legacy
Each of us is gifted
A life in which to live
It is our path to follow
What legacy will I give?
Some of us will value money
Achievement and success
We'll work hard in passing on
The legacy of best
Some of us will value little
And our spirit, will be poor
To be endured, yet not embraced
The legacy of chore
Some of us will value power
Lord over others' souls
To hide our fears and shame
The legacy of control
Some of us will value nothing
To thine own self be true
And answering to no one
There's no legacy for you
Some of us will value others
But to ourselves will give no pause
Healing wounds and mending fences
The legacy of cause
Some will value reputation
Set peception by what's shown
Masking up and putting on
The legacy of being known
Some of us will value fame
Infamy, if need be
Always seeking out who's looking
A legacy to see
Some won't know their value
A gift gone unreceived
Never know their innate worth
A legacy unseen
But...
The wise will value everything
Yet, also nothing at all
Will live inside the moment
The present be their call
They will find the value
That dwells in everyday
Each word, each thought, each action
In mindfullness we pray
They will find their peace in solitude
Inside the sacred space
To grow toward our unity
And understand our grace
They will see miracles in moments
And beauty in each sight
Live in wonder through the daylight
And in dream, throughout the night
They will hear eternity among them
In laughter, song and story
Engaged in every moment
Each experienced in its' glory
Their legacy will be a life lived
Beyond the wordly measures
Just a life expressed fully
Embracing pain and pleasure
A legacy of life
With love given and received
Simply shared and taken
And a peaceful faith believed
Each of us is gifted
A life in which to live
It is our path to follow
What legacy will we give?
