...So I Says To God...

Woke up this mornin' with the dew
On the grass, the breeze
Blendin' with the trees,
And knew there had to be a You!
So I says to God, I says, "Mornin', Lord.
Thank you for the chirpin' birds a-singin' -n-
The church bells by my house a-ringin',
And thanks, again, for writin' Your Word.

I knows I complains lots -n- doesn't try
Enough some o' da time;
I knows I lived plenty rough in my prime
But I also knows how to cry.
Forgive my not givin' enough of a damn
Sometimes, but, hey! 'Member Peter, the disciple?
Just think of me as him -- recycled.
I, too, knows You are the great I am."
