The Broken Mirror of Time

Looking through the broken mirror of time,
I visit times and places from the past.
To have loved never should have been a crime;
Yet, somehow I was always thought of last.

The fragments grow smaller as time moves on,
And seven years of bad luck holds on tight.
My mind becomes increasingly withdrawn,
As I'm caught in this never-ending fight.

The mirror dully glistens through the years,
And the splintered pieces crumble away.
The eyes of those forgotten fill with tears,
As they remember being led astray.

What harms us most are words left unspoken;
Which leaves the mirror shattered and broken.

So Many Years Have Gone By

So many years have gone by since the day
Came for my broken heart to start mending.
Carefully, a kind spirit came lending
A star that reigns high in the Milky Way.

She shines here too, but soon scurries away-
Always to keep the mystery pending.
Far reaching for the time you'll be spending.
Forever here her sacred name shall stay.

Now, continue to search, and search again;
But, in these lines, she will always remain.

Keep searching for her name; I cannot yield.
You shall find her; keep asking yourself how.
Review the clues you've been given; and now,
With this ink, our eternal kiss is sealed.

He Rides Above the Clouds

[Dedicated to the Memory of Chad DeLoy]

He rides above the clouds with no shadow,
Through the peaceful land of eternal sleep,
With all of his fellow bikers in tow.

Always keeping an eye on those below,
May all who have known him no longer weep —
He rides above the clouds with no shadow.

Moving swiftly, forever on the go —
Rising above hills, no matter how steep,
With all of his fellow bikers in tow.

He treasures your friendship more than you know;
May his company you forever keep —
He rides above the clouds with no shadow.

The sun reflects brightly off his window —
Through Lexington, the motorcycles sweep,
With all of his fellow bikers in tow.

He watches you all riding in a row,
Holding your memories of him so deep.
He rides above the clouds with no shadow,
With all of his fellow bikers in tow.

Fireflies

They float dreamily through the summer night,
Across a soft, sky-lit sunset of red,
And their backs glow with a green colored light.

A fire in the woods is burning so bright,
Now that the true heat of the day has fled,
They float dreamily through the summer night.

From the trees in the forest they take flight,
Moving towards the shore of the lake instead,
And their backs glow with a green colored light.

Flying further now - intrigued by the sight
Of the cabin where their travels have led -
They float dreamily through the summer night.

A bright full moon gently bathes them in white,
As they fly past a window by the bed,
And their backs glow with a green colored light.

They circle through the air as we sleep tight,
Now dreaming of the cooler days ahead.
They float dreamily through the summer night,
And their backs glow with a green colored light.

The Most Fragrant Rose

I.

In youth, she was a gift from the divine,
Bringing happiness to those she would meet.
Her complexion would radiantly shine
To compliment her soft brown eyes so sweet.
Her shining dark hair was always kept neat
Whenever she went outside to have fun—
The most fragrant rose grew beneath her feet.
Quickly around the playground she would run,
Then her young smile faded into the summer sun.

II.

In adolescence, she had grown defined,
Who she was becoming began to show.
Her youthful features became more refined,
Walking gracefully through the leaves and snow.
Over the months, the years would come and go—
Mother Nature followed her to ensure
The most fragrant rose continued to grow.
Her beauty became increasingly pure,
As her childhood face had proceeded to mature.

III.

In adulthood, a queen she is now crowned,
As her elegance still lights up the room.
A dearer woman can never be found,
Search far and wide, it is safe to presume.
These lines recall a hint of her perfume,
And her beauty still shines bright throughout time—
The most fragrant rose is now in full bloom.
Here, she shall always remain in her prime,
With her image forever captured in this rhyme.

Lament of the Banshee

She walks alone through the forest in white;
Under thick boughs she lets out her lament—
Holding her head and wailing in the night.

The wind is blowing so fiercely tonight—
Going places few others ever went,
She walks alone through the forest in white.

The moon in the sky shines so very bright,
And her entire journey has been spent
Holding her head and wailing in the night.

She sees the trees now veering to the right—
The path up ahead appears slightly bent;
She walks alone through the forest in white.

The night is dark, with no one else in sight—
To deliver a message, she’s been sent
Holding her head and wailing in the night.

She sees the house, and steps up near the light,
With her bare feet touching the cold cement.
She walks alone through the forest in white,
Holding her head and wailing in the night.

Snapdragon

I found pleasure in every direction,
As I wandered mystified through the fields.
A snapdragon captured my attention;
Possessed with the sensation that it yields.
Moving slowly over the grass, I feel
Entranced; the flower holds me in a daze.
Once the snapdragon’s near, I stop and kneel;
And then, dream into the bright summer haze.
How I had gone for many miles without
The joyful zest, which now flows through my soul.
Shedding away feelings of fear and doubt,
With enchantment that makes my spirit whole.
 Surrounded by colors of brilliant red,
 I make that velvety garden my bed.

A Night At Fire Station Number 9

[In Loving Memory of Jack Nowack]

Smoke billows up into the midnight air,
As flames now engulf a house down the street,
And neighbors wake up to fearfully stare.

A loud alarm calls strong men to their feet,
And they all dress up in protective clothes;
Which help to shield their bodies from the heat.

Safety comes first, as each one of them knows–
For the danger they face is very real,
And this is when their true bravery shows.

They run to slide down the railing of steel
That connects the upper and lower floors;
Then decide who will be taking the wheel.

They quickly board the truck, and close the doors,
As the sirens blare, and the engine roars.

Two Rings Reunite In the Sky

[In Loving Memory of Pam and Roger Schulte]

Love can be found in the heavens up high,
Look up to visit them, and be their guest-
As these two rings reunite in the sky.

Even if not seen by the human eye,
These two lovers meet in an angel's nest-
Love can be found in the heavens up high.

The fingers of these two angels now tie,
Having prevailed through every mortal test-
As these two rings reunite in the sky.

Their love still remains true; and they both sigh
As their hearts now beat in a single chest-
Love can be found in the heavens up high.

To ringing bells, now hand in hand they fly;
In wedding clothes, they are forever dressed-
As these two rings reunite in the sky.

With this precious thought, let our eyes now dry;
For to have known them, we've truly been blessed.
Love can be found in the heavens up high,
As these two rings reunite in the sky.
