Of a Second Daughter

Be there not a kernel paradoxical,
in that nature which hides a truth impersonal?

That freedom is guided by fundamental rights,
not man, for example.

Love, too, must only be allowed to grow-
Love itself, not necessarily man,
is the rule to follow.

Finally, equality can be thought of in this frame,
because only man has emphasized the tradition of a name.

But our blood, our principles, our love-
Are they not passed to women just the same?

Stardust

As a star from a giant cloud ignites,
the day bursts open wide;

My spirit lifts, beyond dawn and mist,
the luster of my mettle shines.

And this singular element of the Universe,
a lesson for me divines:

That however small our place may be,
We are the Sun, the Earth, and Sea.

A Stately Nook

Here is a stately nook,
in various degrees of wear;
Flowers, shells, and myriad designs
grace o'er our good old books.

Compatible Spirits

A man's grace is to see beauty from the start,
To see love in her face,
And read it with his heart.

Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm, a fickle friend,
Illumining the soul, or chasing an end.

A trumpet call to start the race,
Run with heart, or without a face.

Honoring the master’s call alarming,
Or setting the ego dog to barking.

A sailor’s wishing for the wind’s gifting,
Or a soul’s salve in the stars twinkling.

Enthusiasm entices in all its guises,
A forest of virtues as well as vices.

When Apollo's prowess gleamed,
Cupid's arrow deceived
A hero's budding heart, fate's victim,
among the leaves.

Aspire to enthusiasm's enduring aims,
Our Halcyon spirit to exceed the waves.

The Root of all Evil

Negativity, an impossible foe,
a miserable worm that deadens the skull.
A soul enraged when fully engaged-
Best leave the monkey in its cage.

Positivity

A breeze on a string,
A gift with wings,
A blessing warm and bright,
An answer at night.

But this train we seek
Is easily missed
If merely passengers
Without a grip.

Our Wedding

Here follows a curious song,
 a question 'til now delayed:
Oh, what miracle set us abroad,
 then here among the Lakes?
Was it a mutual desire to feel
 what new cultures and
 languages reveal?
Or that God wills fate to help and
 to heal?
Each path, unmet, untold.
Yet, one moment,
 one alter,
two hands for each to hold.
