spring rain
ten-thousand frog croaks collapse
a rain-soaked silence

Deborah Guenther Beachboard Poem
No one is smiling
as if the photo was taken years ago
when exposure was long
with movement held in abeyance
like dreams on the frontier
when great-great-gran was young
younger than the one she holds
in the crook of an arm,
propped on the chair that confines her life
while the faces of those posed around her
resemble a past she cannot recall.

Deborah Guenther Beachboard Poem
Long before the sun breaks the horizon
the sky begins to lighten,
turning night's shadowy unknowns
into day's familiar friends.
The clock strikes the morning hour
as hope paints another sunrise.

Deborah Guenther Beachboard Poem
The breath of the universe
leaves the warmth of its light
with me as I enter the cool shadow
of the long sleep;
I and the others, together yet alone,
in the metallic cocoon that carries us
deeper into the galaxy,
toward the spark of a distant sun
around which an unknown world revolves
in endless cycles of bright day
and dark night...waiting.

Deborah Guenther Beachboard Poem
Perhaps if I sleep
lamentation will vanish
like dew from dark violets
into the sun
leaving only the velvet.

Deborah Guenther Beachboard Poem
Between the tick and the tock
time is held in abeyance.
Marvelous things can happen
in that endless, timeless place.
Time is held in abeyance
in that endless, timeless place.
Marvelous things can happen
between the tick and the tock.

Deborah Guenther Beachboard Poem
the Milky Way
of her childhood
is gone from the sky
Note: a recent science article said that when a large city suffers a major earthquake and loses all electric power, such as happened with the Northridge quake back in the 90s, the emerceny centers are flooded with calls asking "What has happened to the sky?" because without city lights the night sky is visible in all it's glory and many who live in the light pollution of city lights have never seen the Milky Way. The article got me thinking that it has been a long time since I have seen it. I didn't realize until that moment how pervasive is the light pollution even in my rural area.

flit and flutter
from whitest Queen Anne's Lace
To purple thistledown roadside
treasure
