Wellness and Worry

Wellness and worry are by no means friends.
To be well, your mind of worry you must cleanse.
Living with worry, there’s a price to pay
worry will kill you if you let it stay.

If you want to enjoy physical health,
beware of worry it creeps up by stealth
then causes your nervous system to stress,
and in time, you’ll be a physical mess.

Worry also affects your mental health.
Its effects can creep up on you by stealth.
Worrying can lead to anxiety
which makes you withdraw from society.

Worry can steal your emotional health
Like a cat it moves in silence and stealth.
It gnaws on your joy, making you feel sad.
Before you know it, everything seems bad.

Worry can ruin spiritual health.
The crafty old lion stalks you in stealth.
He tempts you to doubt and distrust your God.
Before you know it, your life he has clawed.

Worry is a thief; he is after your health.
Give him a chance and he’ll steal your wealth.
When worry shows up, don't open the door.
Trust God instead, and feel your spirit soar.

Brokenness

In the beginning it was not so. Adam and Eve were perfect when God’s created them. Their interaction with each other reflected the perfection of the relationship between Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

They, like us were created with freedom of choice and could choose whether to follow God’s plan for their lives, or go their own way. When tempted by Satan, they chose to follow his suggestion and disobey God.

That act of disobedience fractured their relationship with God and with each other, and resulted in the brokenness that we experience today.

Adam and Eve hid from God after their disobedience. This is the first evidence of Brokenness. We hide or try to hide our wrongdoing because we are Broken.

Confronted with his disobedience, Adam and Eve resorted to blame. He blamed God, she blamed the serpent. Ever wondered why we are inclined to blame others for our mistakes. It’s because we are Broken.

Many children are abandoned by one or sometimes both parents, who themselves were abandoned by one or both of their parents. The result is brokenness.

Divorce, substance abuse, prostitution, sexual promiscuity, lesbianism, homosexuality, bisexuality, low self-esteem, pleasure-seeking, lying, cheating, stealing, killing, and a myriad other dysfunctions are symptoms of humanity’s Brokenness.

Where do we find help for our Brokenness? It begins with a choice. We know from experience that to keep our cars running well we need to follow the instructions in the Owner’s Manual.

Follow the instructions and your car runs well and you get to enjoy it for a long time. Ignore the instructions and your car will finally break down and leave you stranded. The choice is yours.

After this Brokenness invaded God’s plans for a perfect life for his creatures, he devised a plan to combat our Brokenness and finally effect humanity’s healing and restoration.

Like cars, we have a Maker and he has provided us with an Owner’s Manual, called the Bible. Read it and become familiar with God’s plan for our healing and restoration.

By following his instructions, we can mitigate the effects of our Brokenness. When we ignore his instructions, we experience break down in one or many areas of life. The choice is ours. Healing and Restoration or Brokenness.

The Book of Books

A book comprised of sixty-six,
with content of a unique mix.
Though found in almost every home,
It’s very much an unread tome.

The authors were a motley crew,
Into whose minds the Spirit blew.
Its storyline is God’s great love,
revealed through Christ sent from above.

Most other books, mere knowledge give,
But The Book changes how we live.
It has a storied history,
Yet most find it a mystery.

As best-seller, it has no peers,
It outsells all books year by year.
Most governments its impact fear,
They ban it from the public sphere.

The more obscure The Book is made,
the more society’s morals fade.
Crime rates increase, there is no peace,
As men are controlled by caprice.

You want to save the human race?
then give The Book its rightful place.
We sure can use God’s saving grace,
So, let’s stop flying in His face.

All Creation Sings Your Praise

All creation sings your praises,
Thou who angels love to praise.
Singing holy, holy, holy
round Your throne in heav’n above.
Feathered creatures of all species
worship You at each new dawn.
Joining in a joyful chorus
praising You for each new day.

Wind and rain with trees of forest
join in singing praise to You.
Leaves vibrating making music,
as the rainstorm rustles them.
Sun and moon and stars in heaven
praise You their Creator, great.
As the sun vibrates its vocals
moon and stars ascribe You praise.

Let us all as image-bearers
of the God who gives us life.
Join with all of His creation
Singing praises to our God.
Praise Him for the great salvation
purchased by His Son made flesh.
So that man redeemed and ransomed
Will one day with angels sing.

Make America Great

When the colonists felt that with the king of Great Britain they could no longer reason,
Their leaders signed the Declaration of Independence, though they knew it was treason.
Because of their belief in the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,
They were willing to risk their property and lives since the king would not give them redress.

America was founded on the principles of equality, liberty, and justice for all.
The God who created nature and man was acknowledged by the fledgling nation.
Citizens were free to practice their religion without government interference,
And the religious influence was respected and allowed to shape public opinion.

With such a solid foundation, America had the potential to become great,
But because equality did not apply to women, Native Americans, and slaves.
The practice of discrimination became embedded in the fabric of our nation,
And America missed the opportunity to become great.

Our nation became prosperous by exploiting the native population,
And importing slaves by the thousands to work on the plantations.
Educational institutions sprung up and flourished,
Producing the brainpower that was needed to make America a great nation.

But economic prosperity alone does not make a nation great.
And a vibrant and progressive education system though essential,
Failed to make this nation the land of the free and the home of the brave,
Because women, slaves, and the native population were not allowed to vote.

Discrimination became institutionalized, but the nation continued to thrive,
As immigrants came from all over the globe in search of a better life.
Each group of immigrants experienced some form of discrimination,
But in time they were accepted as part of the fabric of the American nation.

The battle was long and hard, but women finally won the right to vote,
And America moved a step closer to becoming great.
But the racial discrimination against the black population,
Continues to blight the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Our economic prosperity and military might have made us proud.
Meanwhile, we are forsaking God, our moral foundation is eroding,
churches are dying, and the education system is declining,
And the national budget deficit is astronomically rising.

What would it take to make America great?
It will take the providences of Almighty God,
a strong visionary leader with moral integrity,
repentance for the nation’s sins,

the full implementation of the principles enshrined in our constitution, rebuilding the education system,
cutting the national deficit, reducing the size of government, getting rid of unnecessary laws and regulations, and promoting racial integration.

Then we must once and for all end every form of discrimination.
The time to end racial discrimination against minorities has come.
Because it is only when racial discrimination is finally eradicated,
That America can ever realize her potential and truly become great.

Men Without Chests

The scholars say man is innately good.
He just needs training to do what he should.
Education will his nature improve,
and most of his imperfections remove.

God is not needed to help man break through,
much knowledge, reason, and science will do.
No need for old-fashioned values at all.
Rid man of these which his freedom forestalls.

After a century and more of this scheme,
has man accomplished his lofty pipe dream?
Knowledge in all fields has greatly increased,
but man’s nature has not grown in the least.

Man has access to more information,
but humans are still less educated.
Science is making people live longer,
but mankind is not morally stronger.

Man has the many means technology lends,
but has abandoned the few noble ends.
He has more contents but less contentment,
much wealth does not his happiness augment

The schools produce men with heads but no hearts,
void of a conscience, but very book smart.
They rule our lives and make our laws,
determine our rights and decide our cause.

Lewis predicted how the scheme would end.
A few smart men to the peak will ascend,
with much power and greed within their breasts,
the many being ruled by men without chests.

When God Died

Bold Nietzsche declared, “God is dead,”
Humans have killed him, so he said.
Enlightened men, all widely read,
have purged his being from their head.

God decomposed and left a stench,
That human genius cannot quench.
The promise of enlightenment
Instead of light has brought man blight.

God’s substitute, goddess reason
The symbol of man’s high treason
Has not engendered human good,
As humanists believed she would.

History and experience teach,
That man cannot perfection reach
By mere intellectual means
For evil exists in his genes.

The two world wars that men have fought,
defy claims of rational thought.
The truth is clear, mankind is flawed,
And badly needs the help of God.

The moral mess mankind is in,
Is evidence of human sin.
The death of God has brought a curse,
And made the plight of humans worse.

That God did die, is indeed true,
But from a different point of view.
God in man’s flesh came down to earth,
To live and die for man’s rebirth.

God is not dead, He is alive,
From Him humans their lives derive.
If you enlightenment desire,
Embrace God and make Him your sire.

A Lonely Soul

Loneliness is not just being alone.
It is something you feel deep in your bone.
You feel it even when you’re in a throng.
A sad, strange sense that you do not belong.

It may be traced back to your mother’s womb
when evil forces who wanted your doom,
stirred up rejection in your mother’s heart
causing the two of you to grow apart.

When mother’s emotions are running wild,
they surely do affect her unborn child.
Regret over an unwanted pregnancy
can lead to feelings of despondency.

If as a child you always felt alone,
even when around your own flesh and bone.
Today may be the time to start the quest,
to research the loneliness in your breast.

You may never find, what the reason be,
for the loneliness that resides in thee.
But there’s a cure available for free.
Being a friend to someone is the key.

Whatever the reason or the cause,
let not loneliness lock you in its jaws.
Get out of your room, and bring out the broom,
Sweep loneliness away, then start to bloom.

O lonely soul, forgotten and forlorn.
Come to me, your savior, whose heart was torn.
I, like you, felt rejected and alone,
So, come, I will make you my very own.

Ishtar's Invasion

In Sumer land, you first appeared.
A potent god, both loved and feared.
Queen of Heaven, joined to its lights.
Moon your father, Sun your brother.

Venus was your symbolic star.
You were too, a goddess of war.
Fierce, fiery, passionate, and proud,
violent storms raged in your breast.

Goddess of sexuality,
And patron of the prostitutes.
Her worship involved sexual acts,
Her temple housed her prostitutes.

Enchantress you, and sorceress,
goddess of magic and of spells.
You spur desire and alter forms,
despising all societal norms.

You changed your face to suit your space,
And you are known by many names.
Ashtoreth, Astarte, Inanna,
Aphrodite, Venus are you.

You are a female and a male,
with power to transform and mar.
You turn a woman into a man
and a man into a woman.

You ruled the cultures of the past,
and held sway over regions vast.
But when the Christian message came,
men’s hearts were changed, and you lost fame.

Your temples famed relics became,
as worshippers no longer came.
Your cult faded as all cults do,
when men discover what is true.

You lost your lure for centuries,
while men to God their knees did bend.
But as their faith began to wane,
your fame you did, slowly regain.

You spurred a revolt on sex norms,
then inverted natural sex forms.
You blurred lines between the sexes,
breeding in mind that which perplexes.

Today you wage a full-scale war,
designed to destroy and to mar.
You plan to squash man’s soulish bent
and from him every virtue rent.

Wake up my fellow human beings.
Consider what these grim lines mean.
Ishtar wants to destroy your soul,
But God desires to make you whole.

A Tribute To Mothers

Created by God to give birth,
and to populate mother earth.
Though sin made the process painful,
to the task you have been faithful.

The children you bear may cause pain,
As Eve experienced with her Cain.
He chose to become a rebel,
and to kill his brother Abel.

You do not perfection possess,
this your children do confess.
But you possess rare qualities
and have many abilities.

After months of great discomfort,
you endure the pain of childbirth.
Then comes the nurture and caring,
and the years of burden-bearing.

Mom your roles are great in number,
causing you to resist slumber.
Before daylight, you start to stir,
And many days are but a blur.

God made you and gave you the skill,
and the heart his will to fulfill.
He gave you the job to mother,
and teach us to love each other.

Join with me, say thanks to mothers,
who are always helping others.
Be they well, sick, alive, or dead,
Never let their memory fade.
Say thanks to God each day for them,
Keep them forever in your head.

Book: Shattered Sighs
