My Story, So Far

This has more similarities to a story than a poem.

November 2010 - I was in second grade when I started feeling drowsy and weak. I would come home with unexplained bruises, and neither me nor my mom could come to a conclusion. I started turning pale earlier in the month (noticed by my mother). Then one night, like many others, I woke up to use the restroom just down the hall from my room, and that's when it happened. It was like I halfway blacked out, I couldn't see even though the light was on but I was conscious of what i was saying and what I heard. I called for my mom who was sleeping in her room down the hall. So she put a bucket in my room in case it happened again.

The next night- I woke up again for the same reason, I was about to stand up and pee into the bucket, but it was like my legs just wouldn't work! I tumbled to the ground and once again called for my mom. She had to carry me to the car and rushed me to the nearest hospital (about 45 min away). This particular day was a Sunday so the staff working weren't as good as the people working during the week. As I said, I couldn't walk so my mom pushed me in a wheelchair. They misdiagnosed me with the flu. On my way out of the hospital, the person who is supposed to help people when they arrive, said "You don't need that wheelchair, he can walk." If I could have, I would've got up and beat him up on the spot, but I was only 7 years old, and I couldn't walk.

Later that week- It happened again, I collapsed in my room. My mom, once again, brought me in to the hospital. This was later in the week, so the good staff were working. They drew some blood and looked at it under a microscope. They saw a spinal fluid in my blood, which isn't supposed to be there. They knew I had leukemia, however they didn't know which kind. They later found out it was T-
cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I, as a kid, thought it was a bad flu. I was admitted to the hospital and started my treatment. The doctors and nurses were very understanding of my mom's concerns. I was on antibiotics and many different fluid drugs. I woke up with sweat puddles in my bed because of all the fluid being injected into my body. There were many I had to get 14 transfusions of red blood cells and platelets. stages to my treatment, some more severe than others. I went through treatment for over 3 years and I still go for routine checkups every 4 months as of now. I am on my freshman year of high school and i feel like a normal kid.

My Secret Crush

I think about you everyday
I plan out what to say
You have no idea, you have no clue
Just how much I think about you
I try not to stare, I try not to hide
These emotions that are clawing at my insides

I want to tell you how I feel
But the voices inside makes me hush
So I keep it down inside my heart
Hoping that nothing falls apart
Wherever you go, my heart will follow
I hope my heart will never be broken
All because of my love unspoken

It's just so hard to ignore you
Just so hard to not look at you
I don't know what it is about you
That makes me feel the way I do
No matter what they say
I can't think of you that way

But it's hard to say "Hey"
Or just smile and simply wave
I don't know why I feel this way
and when you smiled today
Oh how it took my breath away.

My Story, So Far - Part 2

I currently attend a childhood cancer support group, they serve us a meal and while the parents talk about their children's stories, the kids get to have fun and play.

In June 2017 I went out to Bozeman, MT as a part of Big Sky Kids camp. They had sponsors lined up to pay for the airfares for my mom and I. They flew out 18 kids with one parent each. There were 6 councilors who were former campers. We had 10 days of fun activities and I built new friendships. One especially with a councilor named Braydon, He was much like me in a way I couldn't describe. Him and I instantly became best friends and we still keep in touch till this day. You have to be 16 to be a councilor, so in 2 years I want to return to Montana. If you have ever gone to Lone Peak, or plan on going, get a Yeti Dog. They are the best hot dogs I have ever had. The staff and councilors were very understanding to the families and knew how to keep everyone entertained, whether it be going on a hike, going rafting on a river, or going to a naturally heated pool. I can't wait to go back out to Montana in 2019.

That's my story as of now.
