Gambling Man

patience is not your virtue
or is it?
because you decided you had waited long enough
even though
you waited too long
and my waiting for you
was a mistake

you finally showed face
no, not even that
you didn’t have the heart to look at me
a message came through
you told me to forget you
well
I had been trying
you jerk

but give it a day and another person
it took someone else
to ask who the other girl was
perched on your shoulder
clinging to your arm
wrapped around your finger
not me
I’m not jealous
just disappointed

call her lucky girl
her bet was higher than mine
but I was stepping away from the table
before she came into the room
I only hope that she folds early on
because the house is going to win that game
I won’t be standing by the exit
drunk and breathing cigarettes
when she stumbles out crying
I will be somewhere else where I know the rules of the game

False Gifts and Purgatory

what do you want from me?
you have cemented yourself to my side and I have nothing to give you
nothing to offer
you have tied yourself to a sinking rock
I didn’t ask you to, so I don’t know why you did
you can give me the whole “it’s out of love” speal
but this isn’t love
not to me
now maybe for you it is
but for two heartbeats to pulse at the same time
you have to be on the same wavelength
and I can tell you now
we aren’t even hooked up to the same machine
so now that you have encased your entire being around me
I’m sinking faster
faster into an abyss that you don’t need to drown in too
I’m not saying that to be selfless, some other kind of love you’re fascinated with
no
it’s for your own good that you are neglecting to pay attention to
you want me to thrive?
be the amazing person only you think I can be?
then let go of me
stop suffocating me
every second that you rest yourself upon me for your comfort
is another breath I cannot take
you are not the cause of my demise
please know that
I was already crashing down before you met me
and while you had slowed my descent
you have begun to push me back into a fiery fall
and you’ve kept your big, pretty smile on your face, even when your clothes started to burn
you nag me not to hide from you
but I can see how fake that stupid grin is of yours when you are being insane
acting like everything is fine and dandy
how dare you
don’t you give me that
I just ask for honesty and you blatantly lie in my face
you are a lying hypocrite
and you can go to hell
but don’t come to mine

Shadow On the Wall

The vapour clouds the already foggy mess
A blotted swirl of undefined shapes
The ground and walls now adopting the once physical form
Every stagger a magnified bound
Unfinished feet contacting cracked sidewalks
Pavement splintered, as her heart is about to be
Empty man full of liquor
Not he the monster, but his shadow
A black, crying whale beached in the gutter
Spewing profanities and evaporated water
Broken man to broken house full of broken bottles
And a scarred wife
Arms of the trees grab at him
But they only overlap
No true guardian
Black to black as the grey fades to charcoal
A solid wall and a dented knob
No fight against the abusive streetlight
But on the looming street
A house once full of light
Is dimmed out
Suffocated
By the monster
The shadow on the wall

Cacophony

the sound
of millions of
snowflakes
hitting the
cold dead
ground
is anything
but
silent

Infiltrated

You will not let me think
You shove me back
But there’s a wall behind me
I can’t hear past your screeching insecurities
I can’t see past my tears and your skewed face
Let me go, let me go
Why don’t you let me go?
I’ve said my piece
Your lies won’t change me
Not anymore
Take your mind and leave me be
Dare you question me then assault me for my thoughts?
You paid to hear the tale
So write your review sometime later
I have better things to do
Than lower myself with your slander
Do not judge me for some crime you asked me to commit
Convict yourself and let me walk free
But for God’s sake
Don’t chew on me when you’re the one with fleas

Forgiveness

Calloused fingertips press on chords
Memorized long ago from being played over and over again
Lean hands fly over the strings
Emitting sounds that make you stop and close your eyes for a minute
Strumming or jamming
It makes you want to sit down and contemplate everything
Like how a small mouth
Can speak volumes of passion and pain
And this intense harmony
Will send you to your knees
Not to worship
But to ask for forgiveness
Not to lift your arms in praise
But to open your hands to recieve
