The Storm

From my window as I look out,
Raindrops splashing on the pane;
Winds swaying trees that looked so stout;
Nature’s fury not seem to wane.

The river is in full spate.
A lone boat over the waves did swirl;
The boatman left to his fate,
Tears roll down the cheeks of his little girl.

It was a night too long
Havoc wreaked by storm and rain,
All seemed to go wrong,
Fury of nature was still to reign.

At the break of day,
To the river bank she rushed.
Ardently she did pray,
Tears from her eyes gushed.

Roofs blown afar, fences broken down,
All around were signs of plunder.
In this sleepy little town,
Many lives were torn asunder.

As all her hopes dimmed,
She spots the boat of her dad.
With tears of joy her eyes brimmed,
Her prayer heard she was so glad.
